Greasy head? The top of Olive's head always seems to look greasy, but the rest of her looks normal. Is there a shampoo or something that will help that that won't dry out the rest of her skin? Thanks :) |
I know what you mean. Kaji gets weekly baths on Sunday, but by Wed/Thurs his ears look kinda greasy. I'm not a big fan. We use Biogroom now, but I'm thinking of using a new shampoo. I'm trying Yorkie Splash and Shine, and will be trying a different one soon. I'll be sure to comeback and share what I have found. :) |
Thanks so much. I ordered some Splash and Shine. We'll see if that's better for her than what's she's been using (just any old puppy shampoo from Petsmart). |
I just started using it, and I didn't wait a week to bathe him again like I usually do. We went to the beach yesterday and he got really sandy. We'll see next week if this shampoo does any better. |
Well definitely keep me posted :) |
We got Splash and Shine today, but Olive has been sick. I would prefer to wait to bathe her until she's finished with her meds. She hates baths enough already, lol. |
Well Splash and Shine made her skin dry and her head is still greasy... sigh. I just ordered some Nootie. We'll see what happens there. I'm going to ask the groomer, too, if there's anything else I can do. I was watching a show last night where they used liquid dish soap to degrease a cat's fur, but I'd be afraid to get that in her eyes! She already hates bath time... |

My pup had a greasy head too and we thought it was from rubbing his head all the time causing oils from our hand to build up on him. I changed his food (for various other reasons) and noticed his fur on his head is not greasy anymore. |

Do they make a puppy formula? |
Nevermind that! I called Petsupermarket and they said they have some and there is a puppy formula! Maybe this will help.. Thanks for the advice :) |
Raley gets the little greasy head, too. I will normally take a wash cloth with a little baby shampoo and clean his head and face between baths. |

I can't tell if Olive likes Wellness yet... She used to eat up the Nutro as soon as I put it down. I guess we'll wait and see. I took her to the groomer the other day and they got rid of her greasy head (finally!). They said use oatmeal shampoo on her and no conditioner. I also said something to my trainer and she said Nutro might have too much oil in it for her little body. Maybe making both of these changes will help her. |
I use Harry Barker oatmeal shampoo and conditioner and it been great for my two yorkies and my little one, Lia tends to get an oily head. When Lia is oily I use baby magic on her head and face as she tends to have very sesitive eyes. I sometimes take a wash clothe with a little baby magic and wash her head and face between baths. Kheils, which has a doggie ine can be purchaased at most departmet stores works well too. |
I usually use a really wet wash cloth to wash Annie's face and head. That way I can make sure she get rinsed well and limits the the amount of soap and conditioner in her eyes. I use a shower spray hose in the bathtub to wet and rinse the rest of her wiggly little body !! I've had really good results with Yorkie Splash and the conditioner. It could be that its not all getting rinsed out for you. I also found that it doesn't take much of it to work well. |
Thanks for the advice everyone. :) |
Puppies under a 1 yr and some up to a 1 1/2 release a lot of natural oils because their oil glans are kicking in, so when my 3 boys (my girl was my first so I made all my mistakes with her..lol) where that age I did not use conditioner and if I did it was only on the body part for tangles but not on the head. Thats why when you use conditioner by the 3 day after their bath they look like they need a bath again...lol when they are that young just get yourself a good puppy tearless shampoo for all over and conditioner when and where it is needed. My kids are 13 yrs 4yrs and 2 3yr olds and still I only use a puppy tearless shampoo on their heads, rinse well run your fingers threw the hair and lift it to get water underneath to rinse the skin well. I hope this helped:) |
