opinions on TOTW pacific stream Please! I am thinking of switching my dogs to this dog food and I was wondering what are the opinions on it. My problem is both Daisy and Pixie are on wellness but different formulas and are constantly stealing eachothers food. Pixie poops 5-6 times a day and they are smelly also I have to give her vegetables or her poops are too hard. Would it be hard on her to switch from a chicken protein source to salmon? Has anyone tried this dog food and had good luck. I like the fact that it is grain free and they both can eat the same dog food bc it is for all stages of life. I really would appreciate any advice. Thanks~Joyce |
I used this food and they did really well with it. The only problem is the pieces are kind of big. Right now we are using Fromm Surf and Turf and the pieces are really small and they seem to like that. I was very happy with the TOTW though, I just think they were needing a change. |
I was concerned that dog food analyisis said that there was no proof on their website that their food is exthoxyquin free. hm I will have to check out fromm |
I've never tried that brand. I use Blue Buffalo puppy food (it has over 100% grade in the food rating sticky here!), and my Sasha does really well on it. She poops once or twice, always in the morning, and it's the perfect consistancy (sorry to get technical with the fecal matter lol!)... also the peices are very small, perfect for yorkies! |

As for switching from chicken to salmon, you should have no problems as long as you make the switch gradually. I feed my group a rotation diet where I move them to a different protein every couple of months. Have you considered Innova Evo's new Salmon & Herring food? I got a bag of it last week and my kiddos are crazy about it. And, the kibble is a nice small size. It's grain free and is ALS. I'm still in the process of switching them over so I can't say how they'll do long-term, but this is the food I'm planning to use in place of Pacific Stream in the rotation. Good luck!! |
I just have a question if anyone can confirm. I have been told in the specialty pet supplies (where you can buy the premium foods) that when switching from one brand to another.,.. if both are premium grain free foods, that there is no need to switch gradually.. I was always under the impression that it needed to be mixed (the new with the old) and a gradual switch to prevent stomach problems or diarreah.. so I was surprised to be told this more than once at a pet supply store. On another note... someone mentioned Fromms.. I have to say that mine eat Innova small bites... but at one time I wanted to switch them to Fromm and got free samples and they LOVED every type of Fromms they tried.... but we didn't switch to it because I cannot buy it locally. |

Even when I switch slowly, the furkids switch immediately - meaning -- that even though I mix the kibble they pick through and get what they want and leave the rest :). |

day 1-3: 75% old food and 25% new food day 4-7: 50% of both foods day 8-10: 25% old food and 75% new food Be sure that you're giving her nutrical during this transition as well, in case she doesn't take so well to the food change. She should be fine though... good luck! |

Well that tells me that the taste of the wild is out bc of that preservative ethoxyquin. I am on a mission to find a good dog food. so off to researching I go. I don't want it to be too high in protein and I was hoping to find something both dogs can be on bc they eat eachothers anyways and I am having to be a referee. so frustrating bc Daisy's food constipates Pixie and Pixie's food makes daisy poop a lot! |

So, funny... I was about to place an order of TOTW high prairie online. My babies ate "Addiction/Viva la venison", but it is hard to find. TOTW high prairie got 6stars from dogfoodanalysis.com however if it contains ethoxyquin, I guess, I should order something else.:( How about "Merrick/Before grain" or "Horizon/Legacy"? It is so hard to find "perfect food" for your baby... I wish I could taste all of dry food out there and see which one taste the best!:D |
