Oh my gosh - I feel like a horrible mommy - I have never used a harness, only a collar. I am going out tomorrow to buy a harness, maybe 2. |
Sophie Kate is 8 lbs and wears a harness for walks and car rides. My Vet insists that all her small patients wear harnesses and will lecture you if she witnesses one walking with a collar only. Sophie is so used to wearing the harness that she can almost put it on herself, I slip it over her head and she lifts her leg and slips it thru. Same with sweaters, I swear I just put it over her head and she lifts each leg |
mine walk better with a harness because of how it hugs their chest. I am always afraid of collars cuz I'm afraid they will get hung up on something in the house. Mine are trouble makers, well one is. My tags are on a thingy that I got at Petco that just snaps on. I can just put it on whatever harness I am using. Dickens' Closet I.D. Tag Holders at PETCO |
I have a 9.5 pound yorkie and I have always used a harness. I always felt it to be safer than a collar. |
My boys both have collars, mostly because when we got Joey we didn't know better, so when Tank came along, we got him a collar also...it was after that when I learned that most yorkie parents only used harnesses. We've luckily never had any issues with their tracheas other than reverse sneezing. (Could collars cause that, even when they don't pull on their walks? my boys are very well leash trained) I've considered getting them harnesses, but their daddy doesn't see much reason to. I'm guessing what will happen is that I am going to go out and get them without telling him, cause that's the only way I can think of, hehe:D |
What sort of harness do you all recommend? Do you keep the harness on all the time, or put it on just for walks? Roxie is almost 7 pounds. She sometimes pulls on her leash to the point of choking herself, and it concerns me. |
I only use a harness - I have Mr. Darcy's tag on the harness. I think collars are not nice as they choke them. I also take the harness off and have nothing on him around the house so his hair doesn't 'break' with something constantly rubbing on it.... |
Harness definitely. I have a 14 lb yorkie that always wears a harness. |
Ginger is 9 pounds and she still wears a harness. It is better to be safe than sorry later. |
I actually have this for the car, but have now starting using it for walks. Roxie's pulling has gotten really bad, and this makes walks so much easier. Top Paw® Easy Rider Car Harness - Seat Belts/Harnesses - Travel - PetSmart |
