Yorkie Collar Rocky started school yesterday but I am unable to find a collar for him. He is only about two pounds. I have been told kitten collars but they snap and release. I have tried old navy, petco, petmart, target and it is very hard to find> I have been looking two weeks now. Any help at all is appreciated. Thanks babiedoll:animal-pa |
We used a cat collar untill we started leash training. Then went to a small harness . Sunshine got to be a pretty big boy and kept out growing his . I would not use a collar for leash training due to possible throat injury. |

 Also, I'll add a website where you can order custom harnesses. They have a variety of patterns and they custom size the harness. They also have several style harnesses. I have the comfy harness for my crew and love it. The Cozy Critter - Custom Dog Collars Elaine |

Chokefree makes a great harness that I use for Sophie. (She's only 2 lbs. 6 oz.) Here's a link: Non-Choking Pet Collar for Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits |

Please , please do NOT use a collar , apart from the reasons above I have read many choking accidents since the year i have been on here. They can get them caught in their mouth . It was one of the first things I learnt thanks to this forum. xx Harness all the way lol |
I love the education you get here on YT. Please don't feel bad for not knowing about the dangers of using a collar on a small dog. I once saw a Cesar Millan show where he tried to put a collar on a Yorkie. The owner felt very uncomfortable and he reluctantly changed to a harness. We can all learn, and we can all educate others. Thanks to everyone on YT, I have learned so much to keep my furpup healthy, happy, and , of course, well-dressed--heehee!:) |
We found one of these at a dollar store and I think it's pretty good, kind of soft, a nice fit and not overly difficult to get on and off. The only thing is I'm working on changing out the cord lock cube for something else so it won't bother him if he rolls on his back. www.sporn.com - Mesh Non-Pull Harness We started with a lovely soft easy velcro one from ebay, but as of last week it doesn't hold him anymore if he decides there's a dog he wants to see. Me I'm looking for a soft collar that doesn't have big buckles, in case he has to wear one to hang his tags on or something. |
GollyGear.com is a site with products especially for small dogs. I like the rolled Poochee harness/leash combinations. They don't matt the fur like the wider harnesses will. :) I got the rolled fabric version for Zoey...works great. She's comfortable with it...and no more matts. Super easy to put on and no need for a leash.... |
Thanks for all the responses. I will not be using a collar for this little one on Friday. It doesn't give me much time but I will find a harness. I am taking him to Petsmart for training and the trainer said she has trained dogs for shows and professionally for many years outside of Petsmart. Once again thanks for all the positive input |
