Speaking of Harnesses I need to look in to getting a couple of harnesses so which ones do you like? Tell me what size your dog is and what size harness they wear. Moka is 8-9 lbs. |
I have a silk one made by Chattiesmom and love it. She has all different colors and makes them adjustable so that they can wear them a long time - if you happen to get one that just keeps on growing (like my 2 did). I use their measurements - not their weight. I also use their clothing to walk them in - so I have D-rings put on all their clothes. Was there something special you were looking for? |
Maximo is 8.0 pounds and wears a size 3 Buddy Belt. The harness is ultra light weight and super soft. Maximo wasn't sure he was hooked up to me the first time he wore the Buddy Belt. He also walks nicer, pulls less in it. I'm going to look into the size 4 only because Maximo has a full coat and I thought a slightly bigger size might make it easier to arrange his leg "feathers." |
I've tried many different brands of harnesses and like/dislike them for different reasons. The brands I feel most secure with are Buddy Belt (easy to size, manage, secure, better for long coats and no velcro!) The Choke Free (love the simplicity and look, security is good, don't care for the velcro as their long hair gets caught on it). I have webbing w/ribbon harnesses and although secure and easy to use, they seem stiff even after several uses. Then I've got heavy satin ribbon harnesses from Petsmart and like them for back-up every day harnesses. Ruby is 3-1/4 pounds and wears a size two in the Buddy Belt, and a size 11 in the Choke Free. Reno is about 4-1/2 pounds and wears a size 13 in the Choke Free and 3 in the Buddy Belt. The ribbon harnesses are sized by girth, Ruby is 10" and Reno is about 12". |
I love the Puppia harnesses. Jackson has 2 of them so far (well, one is a Puppia look-a-like, but whatever). I love them because they're vest-like so they look stylish but they're also comfortable and easy to put on. Jackson is about 12lbs and wears a Medium, on the smaller end of the Medium. I also just ordered one of Chattiesmoms silk harnesses as I've heard such wonderful things about them. I got Jackson the color red and I can't wait to get it. :) It will be nice to have in the summer-time, as sometimes I think the vest-type could get hot. |
I have been needing some too. I want them thin enough to go under their sweaters and clothes. |
I love the harnesses and leashes made by Chattiesmom too. I'm about to order a couple more for my girls. |
Chattiesmom @ westbrookdog.com has the best ones. She makes them to fit your dog. PM her for instructions. You will need to take measurements of your little one. I get the 'Walk Nice' harness. It has a D ring also in the front, which works much better for walking Roxy who thinks she's a sled dog when leash is fastened on her back. It's amazing the difference. I've never found other harnesses to have the D rings in both places. |
Sorry, Chattiesmom is at foxypups.com |

Buddy also sports the Puppia Harnesses. He has two and they look so nice over his sweaters and coats. I have gotten so many compliments from people even our new vet, regarding them. They are light, wash great and dry fast. We also have a silk one from Chattiesmom, Cindy, which is just as nice. You can't go wrong with either:thumbup: |

Oh, Thanks for posting this. I'm looking for a new one for Max - who also thinks he's a sled dog! hahaha! I didn't know Cindy's (Walk Nice) harness had them in both places. Great - I'm off to measure Max! Thanks again! |

Nothing particularly "special." I am looking for something stylish as my dogs "go" with me a lot. Moka is very good and will stay right by me off leash, so I have never had to be concerned about her, but I am going to have to have Mylee more secured as she is going to be a "runner." (Yes, a teenaged run away. :D) I knew that if I just asked here I'd get all the right answers rather than spending money only to be dissatisfied. Thank you all for your responses. |

If you want something stylish, I love the buddy belts and the choke-frees for that. They're both leather (which means unless they get chewed they last a looong time) and they come in some great colors. I have a choke-free in the lime green ostrich and I love it. I've never had an issue with the velcro sticking to his hair yet  - but every once and a while it will catch on his sweaters (we wear harness over, not under.) |
Molly has puppia harnesses in medium. She weighs 15lbs and they fit with room to spare. She has a pink polka dot one which gets lots of compliments. |
I have the chokefree harness for Max. It works great. |
