Pedi Paws at PetsMart! $12.99 I just came from PetsMart (Baltimore/Whitemarsh)(not WalMart, WalGreens, KMart, C Mart ... gosh, no wonder I never know where I've been or where I'm going!!! How about UnMart, or NoMart or NoMoreMarts Please!!?) where I went to pick up some food and I noticed they had the Pedi Paws Nail Trimmer either on sale or marked down to $12.99. It was originally selling for $19.99. Been wanting to try it, so I bought one for the pups. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll post a review when I do! (If I have any fingers left to type with!) Ha! Sorry about the Mart thing, I'm full o'Marts! |
Thanks for the info! I was tempted to buy one of those, but my dad's pup was afraid of the noise LOL. So I just bought good ole' fashioned nail clippers for Jackson but it takes me a while to get every. nail. cut. *sigh* |
Well, I found 2 C size batteries and finally was able to give it a test run. I was surprised, it's actually fairly quiet running. My elder dog did the best with it, poor guy, probably cause he's been my guinea pig the longest. It does a good job, no bleeding or discomfort at all. It takes longer than if I had used snips, but generally less stressful. The spinning parts are all covered so with minimal concern for the hair it never got caught up in the moving parts as is prone to happen with a Dremel or similar tool. It's comfortale to hold and use, my hand never got crampy which can happen with me alot. It's lighter than I expected, and very safe and easily controlled. The cons: They need to make a mini model for dogs with little toes. Difficult to hold a toe and insert it into the hole far enough to reach the grinder drum. This is what was most uncomfortable for him. But we were able to do all his nails, and no additional filing was necessary as is the case with snips. I will have to take the time to get my other 2 dogs to where they will accept the thing. But neither freaked out too badly, The vibration which is minor seems to be the biggest hurdle. Wish me luck! |
Update! Okay, I found Pedi Paws at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $9.99 and refills (12 count) for $5. After using it now I guess about 8 times on 2 dogs I have become quite proficient. Also with their nails being longer the first time I tried it is why it took longer. Now, about every 4-5 days, I check their nails and when I can see the quick receding I pop a dog in my lap on their back and have at it. It takes maybe 5 minutes to even up their nails, if that long. It has really made nail maintenance easy on all of us. No stress at all. I love it. I was always jealous of people who were able to keep their dogs nails short, but I could never acheive that look on mine, due to the stress on them and me from using snips. But now I can so I am extremely happy with this product. Their feet look great! Extra benefit: the drum part has a cover that collects all the nail dust so there's no clean up afterward. Just unscrew the top and tap it over the trash bin and you're done! Yeah!!! |
