rubber bands What kind of bands should I use in my yorkies hair? I have tried latex band that look just like small rubber bands. They seem to break the hair. Any suggestions on what to use and where to get them? Thanks :) |
I used to use the little baby rubber bands. But noticed they were pretty hard on her hair. Just recently I changed to Ouchless hair bands, the smallest ones (I got them at WalMart in the baby section). I still tie it around about 3 times and it stays in pretty good. |
I have just ordered ordered grooming bands and they do okay. I agree that it seems as though they still break the hair but I am pretty sure everything will a little. These were the most expensive and supposedly the best grooming bands they had. I have also tried ouchless and I cant even work with those because they have no elasticity to them. I hated them. |
I like to use the cotton tiny bands that are made for people but they stretch and work great in Bitsy's hair. They come out easier and I only have to wrap them around about three times to get them to stay in. I probably got them at Target or Walmart in the people grooming section :D |
The ones I use may be the same ones that BentleyandBitsysMom was talking about. They aren't rubber and they just slide right out of the hair. I use them on myself as well only bigger ones, well I have used Reagan's occasionally, in a pinch. They say no damage and have no metal parts. I get them at Wal-mart, Target etc. in the hair section. But I will say that if you are just starting to put her hair up she will be able to get these out easily. You may be better to stick to the rubber ones until she gets to the point where she leaves them alone. I think these are the ones I use, or something similar... http://www.scunci.com/product_detail...=4&pid=14&lp=2 |
I use small elastic bands I got from Lawdogbows. |

yes, those are them :) |
When Toto was very young and I was just beginning to put her topknot up, I used the teeny ones used for braces. I began to use the colored ones from Wal-Mart when she grew lots of hair. I believe too, all of the will cause some breakage. |
1 Attachment(s) I have stopped using bands all together. Now I use those plastic barrettes that we girls used to wear as kids...do you remember? There's like 10 in a pack and even today little girls still wear them. The have "teeth" so they grip the hair and stay put but they don't break the hair and are easy to put in and take out. Here's a pic to show you what the barrettes look like. |

That's such a cute picture. I've never tried that kind of barrette I've used teh ones that you bend one way to open then bend the other wya to close, they didn't work to well for me but I'm gonna look into the ones you use. |
Oh and where in Alabama are you, sharond? I'm in Tuscaloosa, well just east of it in Vance. |
Bell use to be so good about keeping her hair looking good, but lately she has become such a tomboy, Its hard to keep her hair in a topknot, I have changed to those ouchless bands, but I use to use those bands made out of cotton or something, they are really cheap and don't hurt her hair at all! :p |
Girls count your blessing that your little ones wear barretts or some sort of band, Gucci refuses to wear anything!! lol I put them on and in a matter of minutes she removes them... I want a dainty little girl...lol Gina |
we use the ouchless from walmart. |

Got some for good price! I actually was using rubber bands from jawproducts.com and they are great prices!! Last time I bought them they were between $1 and $2 and their shipping is great, you only pay about 66 cents shipping plus 2.00 handling i think. Here are the ones I bought! http://www.jawproducts.com/orthodont...ics-c-234.html I think I bought the non latex in the 4.5 oz Heavy, 3/16" These elastics are great for topknots! |
I used to use the clear bands that don't stretch that you can get from walmart. When I went to the groomer, they suggested to use the rubber bands used for braces (like the one in the link above). It is a lot easier to put those on because they stretch, but the problem is that they are hard to take off. Also, the last time I took it off she had a big knot that I had to brush out. The good things about these are that she can't take it out herself. She rubs her face all over the carpet and rug when I put her hair up because she wants to take it out. Haha, she's so funny. |
So cute! Aww your doggie sounds soooo cute!!!!!!! |
Rubber bands And yes, the rubber bands from jawproducts.com are the ones orthodontists use, and i always heard those are the best rubber bands for dog groomers to use so thats why i tried them and for me they worked great. your dog sounds adorable! |
TopKnots Chloe's topknot is grey? silver? blue? It tangles around anything I put in her topknot. Before her first B'day, she was black up top, that hair never got tangled.:aimeeyork I want to find something that doesn't tangle, don't think I will tho, do you |
I use tiny groomers bands. |
Gina, I have a tomboy, too. She looks so cute when I get her hair up and ten minutes later she looks like a tornado hit her. :( Or especially when she and her sister play, forget it! I'm thinking of getting her a puppy cut because I can't stand her hair in her eyes all the time. She has very thick, cottony hair and she looks like a sheepdog with her hair over her eyes! omega |
PS Why do you get the non-latex? Is there any specific reason or do you just like them better? omega |

I'm going to the dollar store today to see if I can find some barrettes. Adrianna, me, and rubber bands DO NOT mesh well. :p |
I've been meaning to go shopping for the little girl barrettes, also. Abbie's hair is so fine, nothing stays in. But, I don't usually do anything for her around the house, because of breakage. She just goes around looking like a wild woman. lol Reminder: need to go brush her. Now. |
