Dog Car Booster Seat -- to buy or not to buy
 
I'm going to the YT meet-up in VA this year and have been thinking about buying a dog car booster seat. I have 2 furbabies...one weighing at 4.7 lbs (Cassi) and the other at 2.7 lbs (Ori). Cassi loves car rides, but Ori still gets nervous and car sick sometimes. I'm wondering if this car seat would help Ori a bit or do you think it's better to leave him in a carrier/crate? I tried that this weekend, when we did a longer car trip (approx 1.25 hr drive) and of course he threw up, and poor Cassi who was in carrier with him had the vomit all over her back. :rolleyes:

The one I'm considering is the -- Deluxe Oversize Pet Dog Car Booster Seat.

Just wondering if anyone has this and would they recommend it (or if they recommend something else). Does this car seat allow them to lay down together?

Sorry, this may sound like a stupid question :D-- can you put this car booster seat in the rear passenger seat? All the pics shown, shows this booster being used in the front passenger seat. If anyone has pics please post. thanks!!! :)

I have the snoozer car seat. I have the small one as well as the oversized one and I can say that I love them. To me they are very sturdy. Mine also have a plastic drawer that I can put some things in. I've put it on the floor when I needed a bed and they just jump right into it. Hot Rod is 4.1 ls and Maggie is 4.4 lbs. Here is a picture of the 2 of them in the larger one. I can say that it is worth the money. It is a bit more expensive than the booster seat however.

Oh my! Fancy schmancy!

I just bought one today, but it's a simpler design than that one - it's just a big, cloth booster seat, basically. It has divots on the back for the seat belt to slide through, and a tie-out to attach the dog and the seat belt together. So far I love it. That being said, I'm not sure if Thor loves it so much that he would choose not to vomit, if he were a car vomiter.

I would probably get two so that if one gets puke in it, you only have to clean up one dog. I think it MIGHT help with the vomiting because the dog can stick his head out the window, and being outside of the carrying case might make him less nervous.

As for whether they will work in the backseat - I think it depends on the shape of the seat and the shape of your car. From what I can see, the one you linked two would not be good for the back seat, because it looks like it has a piece that ties around the back of the seat? Maybe you could try just one for the puker, though, and put the other dog in the back. I'm pretty sure the one I have would work in the back seat, because it just needs the seat belt to slide through the back and then tie out to.

This one can be used as a bed when you travel or when you are not needing it in the car too. I wanted the snoozer, but it was considerably more for the large one.

Usually I only take them for short rides so I keep the small one in my suv. When hubby and I take them out, we have the larger seat in his suv cause we would probably be going further. If you mainly make short trips, the smaller one is okay. If you drive distances, I would suggest the larger one. I usually put a blankie or a squishy pillow in with them for long trips. But then, my 2 don't exactly snuggle up to each other all the time. I'd purchased the smaller one first when we only had Hot Rod. I like having the big one as well for the longer trips. Sorry if this is confusing you more. I guess I would tend to say the larger one that way you have the best of both worlds. :)

Thanks for the info! If you don't mind sharing...can you please either post or PM me which car booster seat you purchased.

I will probably buy one now and put a towel underneath them, just in case Ori vomits (aka, 'the puker', lol). Also, I'm going to withhold food for him at least 4-6 hours prior to the car ride.

I probably need to purchase something soon, as the meet-up is coming up in about 2 weeks.

I like the solid ones better than the booster seats that hang by straps. I just thought the straps might stretch and it would sag after time.

I saw that -- I think the sale was over. Here is the one I ordered: Sales-Innovations.com : Pet Booster Car Seat Large The large is only $69.99. They also come in heated models if you need that.

I highly recommend either the Snoozer or the Pet Gear. The hanging seats are not constructed very well and since you should not be using it in the front seat unless you can turn off the air bag, most standard cars cannot use one of these in the backseat.

I would definitely put a towel or blanket down if your baby gets sick, then it is a quick and easy clean up. With the larger Snoozer or Pet Gear, most of the time they will lay down and they ride very comfortably.

Thanks everyone for your input. :) At this time, it's a toss up between the Snoozer or Pet Booster Car Seat (Sales-Innovations.com : Pet Booster Car Seat Large)

Although, I've heard a few positive comments on the Snoozer...I like the Pet Booster Car Seat b/c the seat belt goes through the bottom part of the car seat rather than the top part.
