Anyone have a PediPaws Nail Trimmer? Does anybody use the PediPaws nail trimmer? It says the protective cap allows only the perfect amount of nail to be removed, so does it stop before cutting into the quick? It looks easier than snipping with a nail clipper, but I'm curious if you have one, do you like it? Is the Peticure better/worse or the same thing as the PediPaws? |
I have one. I still cut the nail (I am afraid to go too short) and then I use that to file down the edge and make it smooth. I think it works. The plastic cap on mine broke a little but I can still use it. |
I have the Peti-paws, and wrote a blog on getting Joey to use it, at first I thought it was pretty great, and I thought I was getting them short enough, but I had an appointment with Joey's breeder for a complete grooming, and she told me that I was leaving the nails way too long. She had to clip the nails way back. She said if left too long, the feet will eventually spread. The nails should not be touching the floor surface ever, she was able to cut all his nails in the time it took me to cut a couple of nails, and those weren't even short enough. I started using the nail clipper after that, but I cut into the quick once, and now I'm taking him to the vet to get them trimmed. Joey's breeder lives too far away for monthly visits. :( This is the only thing I can't do, some people say they really love the Peti-paws, but I wonder if they are getting them short enough? Here's my blog, if anyone wants to learn how to acclimate them to the Peti-paws. Peti-Paws, does it really work? |
I have one and we've never used it. Mommy's a chicken! :p Anyone want one? Free? It's cluttering up my cabinet. |
I returned mine. Uni hated it. I can clip her nails while she sleeps in my lap, that seems to work better. |
Pasquale hates his...i KNEW he would hate it...but hubby insisted i buy it...tell me again why i listen to him?? :thumbdown |

Does the PediPaws not allow you to file short enough, or would you just have to file longer? |

My son just called and asked to try out ours, so I have to take back my offer. Sorry! I'll let you know what they think of it. |
pedi paw I returned mine, Lexi hated it, and it didn't cut short enough. We just found a new groomer who said they would cut her nails free in between grooming visits too. We just got a new cut and it was very good! (in Florida) A modified schnauzer cut for the summer! looks good. will post a picture asap. |
We bought one and returned it too. The head revolved waaaaay too fast, Cookie was not only scared but obviously in pain!!! I recommend a drimmel, (which is basically all that a PediPaws is ) you can adjust the speed so it doesn't revolve so fast, we tried that out and Cookie was fine. |
Does anybody know if it will continue to file even into the quick? |
I like the petipaws cuz it's very quiet. I also take out the top portion (unscrew it) cuz it just gets in the way. It shouldn't be used to file down a long nail. It'll get too hot & it'll take forever. It's designed to smooth down nails & to keep nails smooth like a dremmel. I would think if you kept filing it down, you would eventually hit the quick, but the dog would probably let you know if you're getting close! Just a little tip for cutting those black yorkie nails: cut little by little until you see the black dot in the middle |
