Little Life Vests Hi, I hope I am posting this is the right section..... Anyone ever use the little life vest/preservers from like Petsmart, etc....we go camping a lot, and are in/around water all summer long, of course we will always keep a very close eye on my little Prince Boomer, just as I do with my human kids, but just want to always and forever be extra super safe...Just wondering if anyone had any experience on how well they worked. Thanks for your input!! :D |
sorry!! oh ya' I also wanted to ask about the Puppy sunglasses.....especially when we're in the sand........or am I being too overly worried. Sand in the eyes is no fun.... |
We have doggles and they work well........ just make sure that you get the right size. Shelby & Seymour keep theirs on no problem. We have the life vests but don't use them very much. |
They work very well. Tinkerbell and I went kayaking last week and she was more interested in drinking the water, barking at the splashes and the wake, then anything. She was a bit shocked when she fell in but the vest kept her afloat just fine. I had no choice, it was either steer to avoid overhanging trees or keep the dog in the kayak! I hauled her back in the kayak and as she shook off, she knocked out a scupper plug and the kayak filled with water. I pulled up onto a small stretch of beach to unload and dump the water out. She went absolutely bonkers in the sand. She was such a mess I had to dunk her in the river to clean her up enough to put her back in the kayak! All in all, we had a blast. Can't wait till the rain stops to go again! P.S. As goofy as she got in the sand, I think goggles would have come off. I usually have saline eye rinse or natural tears on hand for human and dog use. |

Oh man, sounds like you had your hands full! My two use the life vets and it definitely helps them. We also put them in the water without them on just to get them used to it just in case they should fall in while they don't have them on. With Hot Rod's tub therapy, Maggie was swimming wothout her jacket and was obviously getting tired and you could see her backside going down and she would have probably gone under too. So I know the jackets will definitely help them when they are in the water. Hubby also bought a crab net cause we just know Maggie will wind up in the water this year as she has discovered birds! Here is one of the ones that we have. |

Mia has a life jacket. I put it on when she wants to stay in the pool for a really long time. She gets tired and then I won't worry about her. She seems to really like it. She swims faster with it on!! Also I think it helps to keep her warmer longer. I like the handle on the top, easy to grab her when and if I need to. I got it at the Pet store, nothing fancy but it works good. :D |
they have the life vests at tuesday morning for 7.99 |

Yes, I think I ought to try the life jackets! |
Yay Life Vest and Doggles! Hepburn got his first life vest and a pair of really snazzy doggles today. He has been swimming once in the bathtub, just to test, and the vest works GREAT! I am taking him to the Outer Banks, NC this summer when I am stateside (I am an American living in Berlin, Germany), and the house we are staying at has a pool, so I got the vest for when I am swimming and he is in the pool area, in case he should fall or jump in. He doesn't like the doggles much, but it was sunny outside when I put them on him, and he let them stay on after I told him no for pawing at them. I am looking forward to taking him to the beach for the first time and testing his new stuff out. The life vest is an XXS blue polka dot vest from Paws Aboard, and the doggles are XXS K9 Optix in Copper. They both fit very well. Hepburn is around 3 lbs, for reference. He is very slim and long. Photos to come soon. |
From a retailer's perspective life vests and sunglasses have been very popular so far this spring/summer! |
They work very well have a boat and bought the jackets for both of my babies. |
