What Kind of Chris Christensen Brush? My Bailey hates being brushed and tries to bite, so I can only do a little at a time. She's starting to get some knots and mats. I figured I should probably just invest in good brushes now while she's a puppy, and I hear a lot of you YT'ers talking about Chris Christensen brushes. I was also considering getting some Ice on Ice (good idea? Sounds like it would help for my persian cat too...). But the site is sooo overwhelming! So many kinds of brushes. Even in pin brushes there are tons. I was thinking of possibly getting a pin brush and a comb, or just a pin brush. Are those the right brushes to have? And then WHICH do I choose? There's wooden, brass, brushes for fragile coats. What's the difference? :confused: |
I've recently bought the wooden pin brush from CC and love it! I would recommend it and their butter comb if you're going to order from CC. |
I use the Brass Fusion brush and I noticed a difference immediately on my dogs. It does not hurt them and now they love to be brushed. |
I've read some really good things about the CC wooden pin brush, and that's said to be wonderful with mats. If you are thinking about getting a steel pin brush, maybe you want to consider the Maden Pin brush, one of our members sell them, and they are an extremely good value. Puppies do mat more than older dogs, and I used Cowboy magic detangler when Joey was a puppy, especially under his arms after he wore clothes. Some people recommend cornstarch. I have the CC gold series pin brush, the CC wooden pin brush and the madden brush. I like all 3. I find the wooden one works great on my cottony coated 2 and the pin brushes work good on Pixie my silky coated one and good for finishing off the cottony coated ones. |
Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm still confused but it seems as long as I get a high quality brush I probably can't go wrong. :) I think Bailey has a silky coat. I'm not really sure, but I say that because her eyes look green in pictures. If that trick is really true... :p |
Over the past three years I've tried just about every recommended brush out there with the exception of Mason Pearson brushes. Last night as I was grooming I started counting them - 17 different brushes (and I've given away several), from various mfgrs, at an average price of $18. If I knew then, what I know now, the wooden pin brush would be my first choice, followed by the CC pin brushes. If there is any way you could get to a dog show, you could possibly try out several brushes and choose the one you prefer. |
If your dog is a silky coat, the Madan pin brush would probably work great, you can use the any of the colors, except the black on red pad. I have both the black on black and the blue brush, the blue has a little more give, and I like that better for those early morning snarls. I think the pink and green have even more "give", but blue works great for Joey. If I had a little girl, I'd get the pink. :D |

Thanks everyone! I just ordered her a wooden pin brush and a bottle of ice on ice. Shipping seemed a bit high, but it'll all be worth it if it makes grooming time more enjoyable for both of us. |
I have three of their brushes and one comb The brass fusion, the wooden pin brush, the 20mm gold pin and the 012 buttercomb. Love every one of them. The one I use most is the buttercomb. Then the brass fusion Also recently added the Madan brush (member MiMo sells them) so I think I have every brush we'll ever need, lol Oh almost forgot, have a soft boar bristle brush too, I use that as a final brushing, it really brings out the natural shine on the coat |
I have the CC 20mm gold pin brush, the CC wood pin brush, the CC soft boar bristle brush and the green Madan brush. I like all three of my pin brushes, but I haven't used the Madan or the CC wood pin brushes enough yet to really make a recomendation - just that you couldn't go wrong with any of them. I also have CC's fine tooth rat-tail comb and CC's #006 face/feet butter comb. The face/feet comb is a definite must-have for us!! I use it all over their bodies after brushing, and I pull their top-knots back with it, as well as working on the face & feet. |
I have the CC 20mm gold pin brush, I think it works great and have no complaints about it. when I was window shopping for a good brush it made my head spin there are so many choices. I just recently orders the Madan brush for a gift, I obviously haven't tried it out but the package comes with a hole that allows you to feel the pins. I am most likely going to buy one for myself just from the feel of it, can I want a pink brush. :D |
