What is going on with dogfood prices???? It was about a month ago when I went and purchased food for Shelby & Seymour. I went again on Thursday and the small bags that I buy... I get the small ones for storage reasons...went from $13.89 to $16.89 !!!!!!!:eek::eek: I was glad that I had a $5 coupon!!!! Has anyone else notice the dramatic increase??? It wasn't long ago and there was a clip on one of the nightly "news type" shows and they were talking about the pet industry.... and how it hasn't been hurt very much by the economy............. hmmmmm..... it will start to with those types of price increases!!! |
Well, I don't know that I've noticed the increase in the dry dog food......................yet. Not to say it hasn't increased, just that I haven't noticed. We buy the big 15-20 lb bags. BUT, we also mix the raw medallions in with their dry, and I have noticed the price of those go up. Don't know if it's the economy or the small pet store we get them from, but they started out last year at $12 bucks a bag, then $14, now I think they are almost $16. We most always have a "buy one get one free coupon", otherwise I'm not sure they'd be getting the raw regularly. They do love it though! |
wow, thats a very dramatic increase! the store I usually go to get the girls food had a promotional program forever -buy 10 bags(accumulative) and get 1 free, they just sent out a note saying they can no longer afford to honor the promotion starting this month! I think everybody is probably hurt by this economy more or less. |
I think it's going up pretty drastically around here too - I know I was shocked the last time I was at the store  It really makes you think about home cooking. I think part of the problem around me is that the higher grade foods are only sold a couple places - and really there is only one store that this is their main mission - so they have the market cornered. But they stopped selling Artemis - which is what I like for my cat, and there are 2 places to buy it in town - one a groomer, that I do not care for due to multiple reasons including her high prices on everything in her store & then a vet's office that keeps no regular hours & even though they are close to my home - they are never open when I need to buy. Where are you finding coupons?? I have never had a coupon for dog food. Do I need to be checking online?? |

Homecooking often costs 4-6 times as much. We now pay over $300 a year and $150 for each consult with her nutritionist. So if you switch, don't plan on saving money. |
I understand your concern about the price, I just wanted to let others know that use wellness dog food that if you google wellness dog food coupon, they have 5$ off coupons, I have printed off 3 in the past 2 months and used them, it may not be much, but if you can print them and use them a few times it adds up |
I noticed the NV raw went up quite a bit, especially when compared to two years ago! The rabbit has really gotten rediculous too. But then I would hate for the to skimp on quality to make it cheaper... but yeah, the increases really make it expensive to feed multiple pets. Lacy is having to be switched to homecooked, and I think it's going to be just as expensive... I spent about $15 on ingredients at the store for food that would last a week. And that is without supplements. We have a consult with a nutritionist Friday and then I'll see what our cost will be then... |
I've noticed this too! Our cat food went up in price by a few dollars and dropped a pound in size! |
Some of the dog food manufacturers have been experiencing shortages in specific ingredients-- Royal Canin sent a letter to my workplace a few weeks back apologizing for back orders in their venison products due to shortages in venison. According to the letter, a lot of ranchers have been switching off venison production due to increasing costs. I'm sure if shortages are impacting RC, they must be impacting other pet food producers too. I've heard people mention similar shortages in rabbit recently... perhaps that might account for some of the jump in prices? I haven't noticed a big jump in Penny's food in the last year-- it's still about $12 a bag. |
Ours has been increasing in price too but not that drastically. I've noticed the canned food has gone up about 10 cents a can over that past 3 weeks. Every time I go in it has gone up a few cents. People food is doing the same thing.... |
