Pet treats may be tainted with salmonella, FDA says January 21st, 2009 Pet treats may be tainted with salmonella, FDA says Posted: 05:38 PM ET (CNN) — PetSmart is recalling seven of its Grreat Choice dog biscuit products because they contain peanut products made by a company that has been linked to a salmonella outbreak in 43 states and Canada, the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday. Dr. Stephen Sundlof, a veterinarian who is the director of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, said that the risk to animals is minimal but that people who handle contaminated treats could come in contact with the salmonella bacteria. “It’s especially important that children wash their hands after feeding treats to pets” because the bacteria could be on the surface, Sundlof told reporters. |
 thanks for the info |
Ok, please indulge me on this because I honestly do not understand. People feed raw. Chicken is raw Chicken has salmonella deduce: Chicken is bad for our babies. However, all the research I have done states that dogs are not suseptible to Salmonella. So, (see where this is going?) Do PEOPLE eat the dog biscuits? :sickie: Is it just because of people handling the treats? Thanks!!! I appreciate the clarification. |

I am actually happy to read this! I live 50 miles away from the PetSmart I bought them at, so I was bummed at the prospect of throwing the new bag away. I work in a doctor's office, so washing hands is like breathing, LOL! Crisis averted. |
