Snowsuit with footies needed!!!! Ok I am having a hard time finding a snowsuit for tino with footies. I cant put the normal booties on his feet because his little feet are just that...to little for even the smallest size. So I was wondering if any of you yorkietalkers knew of any snowsuit's for these little guys that possibly have waterproof footies attached to keep my little on warm in the snow?? I am really hoping you guys can help! Thanks!:) |
great idea! and and if you find any I would surely like some too. |
I would love that too.... if nobody figures it out--I'll try to by next winter... I'm getting a sewing machine for Christmas, I think! |
That is what i need too! Rochester it is snowing everydayy!! |
Thats a great idea! |
HAHA! It looks like no one has really seen them. I wish I knew how to put something like that together. Maybe I can figure something out. I would just have to look up some patterns maybe??? Apparently I might be on to something here LOL! If I figure anything out I will let you gals know. I am in Syracuse originally from Rochester so I know exactly what you mean about it snowing all the time. I feel horrible for Tino, he is always so cold. :( In the meantime, if anyone has seen something like this definately let us know!! We have to protect our babies!!! Not to mention it would be Super CUTE!!!! LOL! Another one of those faces : "mommy, what have you done to me now????" |
YAY!! you know rochester! WOOHOO! ...that would be great if you could do that for us |
We are in the frigid midwest---could use a snowsuit with footies. I'll play around too---I used to be a good sewer! |

A lot of the booties they make for little dogs aren't functional because they're designed with heels and soles and heavy leather to make them look cute. But the dogs can't walk in them, let alone trudge through the snow. All you need for a functional bootie is a simple sack. Fleece works well, but it soaks up water if the snow is wet. I don't think the material has to be fully waterproof, but it should be water resistant. Keeping them on is another story altogether. I've never considered a suit with footies, but I like the concept. The booties would never fall off. Let me know if anybody needs an official tester! |
As for materials, check out Dog Booties. They use something called cordura for their sled-dog quality booties. I asked them about it, and they said it's not waterproof but it doesn't get soaking wet. I figure if it works for sled dogs, it would work for Yorkies. Evidently, they sell the material on their site. |
Thank you!!! I will try to play around with this... I have four little babies of my own. If I come up with something decent... you can have yours for free :D |
:lightbulb OK...now you guys have me wearing my thinking cap again! I thought I lost that thing down in my closet somewhere...LOL Mayyybe we could come up with them baby jammies that have the feet in them and put them on OVER the booties to help keep them on??? Then put their heavy coats on over the jammies too. ? Any thoughts?:yeahthat: |
I'm not sure I understand? do you mean that the fabric of the snowsuit would get wet? We'll figure this out! By next winter we'll be all set lol I hate it when my babies go in the snow---they do not like it at all...and then their hair gets all matted :( and clumps of snow is all in it. |
Try Shaggylamb.com:D |

I really think simplicity is best. If you're having to put on multiple layers to make it work, you're not going to want to go to the trouble for a short walk. The idea of putting on one snowsuit that has booties attached is appealing. My preference would be for it to be a relatively lightweight fleece suit. For extreme cold, you could put a coat on over the top pretty easily. |

Interesting. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what you all come up with! The snowsuit/booties combo sounds like a great idea. |

ooo right good point |
I have been thinking about this for my little one. Remember when you were a kid and your mother had that elastic with clips for your mittens? I'm going to try something like that since it would be inside his coat but over his sweatshirt. I figure it's worth a try. |
Have you guys tried PAWZ? Maybe even get a bigger size and put them OVER other boots. I have a set and they are really cool! I would think that a snow suit would have to be custom because the legs would have to be a different length for each dog. I would just keep trying with boots. I believe Premier Fido Fleece makes a coat with 4 legs. I think tinkerbellscloset.com does too! |
I only use it for keeping Gus really warm when we have to be out in the freezing cold...I'm not skilled enough at sewing to make one he could run around in...but I made one out of a baby snowsuit. Like Erin already pointed out if you're going to make them to sell you might have some trouble with the legs. That was the most difficult part for Gus and I had him right there to keep adjusting the fit until it was right. I sewed on fabric to the back of the legs that ties around to keep his paws in. Before that he kept pulling his back legs up into the belly of the snowsuit. The ties or maybe velcro might help so you don't have to be so exact with the length of the legs too. Just a thought. |
