Second Nature Dog Litter? Anyone?? Purina® secondnature® Housetraining Solution Has anyone tried out this product? Does it work? I am considering to get one for Chloe and not sure if it really works and if she is going to use it at all..... |
A while... I started my puppies out on that litter. It was kind of expensive in my opinion so I got them to use litter and they didn't eat it...I was afraid they would eat the litter, so far my new puppies from my litter are doing wonderful with just regular cat litter. I kept lots of things they like to chew in the room instead the litter and it seems to work. I have one that raids the litter box out of habit, but I have changed her diet to the best possible food and have started spraying the pan with bitter apple and also have put stuff in her food like Forbid and it is helping curb that horrible habit. She knows I come on glued if I catch her. I realize she tries to keep the den clean, so I clean it immediately the litter box as soon as it is soiled.:aimeeyork |

When I first got Bella, we tried this. She plays with them instead of pooping on them. |
Hi, if you spray bitter apple on it, they won't eat it or play with it. After doing this for a few times, they will leave it alone. I had Baxter and Cooper using a litter box, with Second Nature Litter, until we fenced our back yard in (about 2 years for Baxter, 1 year for Cooper). Darcy was a rescue, and she came already trained to potty outside :D. Now that the yard is fenced, Baxter still stubbornly uses his litter box--he will run through the potty door from playing outside to poop in his box--ROFL! The only thing I don't like about the dog litter is that no matter what they say, it DOES track. Plus it HURTS to step on a piece of it! I line the bottom of my pan with several layers of papertowels, then put it inside a trash bag before filling it with litter, so when its time to clean I just bundle up the bag, throw the paper towels in it (in case any pee seeped through), wash it out with soapy water and start again! (I use a trash bag so I don't have to handle the litter as much, plus I didn't know if the plastic pan would absorb urine odor over time). Hope this helps! Amy |
tried it out a lil over a year ago.... all my mom's pom did was play with the little thingies! havent tried it with Shelby.... im going to keep an eye on this thread though cause ive heard the same stories from friends.... everyones dog seems to think they are toys not litter!! |
At first my dog would try to eat them, would find them laying all over the house. She would poop in it then stand right next to it and pee. I finally switched her to pee pads. |
I have that litter box (the little larger size so Lulu can easily turn around in it) but I don't use the litter for it. I use blank newsprint. It works out well and we just through out the paper when it is used. |
We started that with our first Yorkie, Biff, and he took to it right away and we will definitely use it when we pick up our little girl in a few weeks. Thank goodness Biff's on the small side because I've heard the complaint that some boys lift their legs too high and it goes on the wall or floor. It is a little expensive, but honestly it's worth it for us since Biff would otherwise need to be taken out WAY too often. We still take him outside for walks and he will go outside, infact he prefers to poop outside. In a pinch he'll use the box with no complaints since he knows he gets treats when he goes in there :) Sometimes he does take pieces out and play with them on the floor which makes a bit of a mess, but it's not a constant habit. Maybe a few times a month he'll do that. Great stuff though. |
i just bought the pan and used pee pee pads inside. worked like a charm! :animal-pa |
Similar to the above posters, we tried it out when Selah started shredding her disposable pads. Well, then she just went to shredding the little litter pieces! We tried the bitter apple route, but all she wanted to do was bury her toys in the stuff-- eew! We finally switched to reusable washable pads, which we feel better about being more environmentally friendly and all. |
