I bought some of these yesterday for Max and Madison to chew on, hoping it would help their teeth~ they're those white bone looking things with a knot on the ends~ Are they supposed to EAT them? I can't find anywhere on the bag (or website) where it says whether it IS or IS NOT safe for them to eat or if they're "digestible". Does anyone know? I swear, I think Madison ate the entire thing; I can't find any of it anywhere (he grabbed it and ran and hid to chew it up). He's not acting weird and he's been eating and pooping fine, and they really LOVED them, but I'm not sure it it's ok for them to be eating them.
I would have called the company, but of course, it was 4 pm CA time and they're on the East Coast and their hours are 9-5, Mon-Fri:rolleyes:. Why does it always happen that way:confused:

Would appreciate any input about these. I'm not going to give them to them til I find out one way or the other! Thanks!

Personally...I would never give Cali anything made by Hartz. I don't trust the company and I am appalled their things are still on shelves. Do a search on here.. there are a lot of threads about Hartz products. Better safe than sorry..

Thanks ladies! ugh....another product into the garbage:(. I was suspect when they don't specifically say "digestible" on the package and they don't have any information other than to "supervise" them....what is that supposed to mean? Watch them chew it, watch them eat it, or what?

I was a little irritated that there isn't anymore info such as : This is not intended to be consumed other than chewing, or Do not allow your dog to swallow product.

And there's no way to contact them if it's after THEIR office hours..not even an email avenue and there's no more info on their website other than what's on the bag.

I give my 5 month old those things all the time and she loooves them. Ive had no problems with them, and theyre her favorite.

Hartz is not a great company.:(
I wouldn't trust them.

Does she just chew on them or does she EAT them? I wouldn't be so concerned if the entire thing disappeared within half an hour:eek:. And half of Max's was missing too, although I pulled a chewed up piece out of his mouth that I'm sure he was getting ready to swallow. I'm just not sure that they're digestible. An obstruction doesn't sound like the way I want to spend my day (or money) just for a chew stick!

I bought the rawhide bones (small ones) from CVS. Is that what you are talking about? Rawhide chew sticks? They should not be able to eat them in one sitting. It should take many weeks to consume a rawhide - anything...

During the time they are chewing on it a whiteish looking weird flimsy part of teh bone (gum-like but hard to cut?) should show up after they ahve been chewing on it for a while. As far as I know it's safe for them to swallow (in tiny bits).

I'd be more concerned if part of the bone knot came off and they were chewing that on its own.

But the rawhide bones from CVS are great! Bentley chews and chews and it actually helped his baby teeth come in faster. It's been several weeks and I haven't had to give him another one. He's still working on the one end. Whole bone is still there. LOL

It sounds like the same thing you got. I put a photo of the bag below. My boys are adults (2 and 3 yrs)...they ate the entire thing within an hour or a little more. I can't find any part of them anywhere. I did manage to take a piece away from Max, but Madison went under the bed to chew his up and I couldn't get it from him. I'll use the rest of the contents of the bag for a craft project I think:).

...to all those that warned me about these bones. I posted a reply earlier saying that my dog eats them all the time, and she's fine...until the other night when she chewed one of the ends off and swallowed it, and started choking on it...for like 2 MINUTES!!! I about died! Thank God she was ok but those things hit the trashcan faster than you can say "bone". I hope everyone can learn from my stubborn naiveness.

I'm so glad your baby is ok after that scare; luckily, mine didn't choke on them, but it certainly could have happened!
