Show me your crates!
 
Hi everyone, I'm getting a puppy at the end of June, and I'm not sure what kind of crate to get for crate training/sleeping. I know they have to be big enough for them to stand up and turn around in, but small enough so that they don't make their own potty area. Can you post pictures of your crate(s) to give me a visual?

Also, do you use the same crate for travelling/car rides or do you use something smaller?

I have this kennel that I used to use to transport my pet rats. Will it be of any use or will it be too small? My pup will be about 10 weeks old when I pick it up and will be 4-5 lbs full grown.

I prefer the plastic type carriers, but I know a lot of people use the wire ones.

You already know the size....so you are set! I use the same carriers for travel as I do for crating at home!

I have used metal crates, plastic crates and carrier. I also used a real baby travel cot/playpen, they are really handy.

We used that crate for our puppy when we first got him at 10 weeks, 2.5 ounces, but we quickly found that it is too small to crate train him. It is long and wide enough, but it was too short; the puppy should be able to stand up comfortably without hitting his head on the top.

We still use it for car rides, though, because he is supposed to be laying down anyway.

I have a Canine Camper crate which is Ranger's "bed room." I put it right on the bed beside me or on my nightstand. It's just a tiny little thing, but he curls up in it and gets all comfy cozy. I have a bigger plastic crate for car rides, staying at home, traveling, etc. Here's a pic of his Canine Camper. This was when he was 12 weeks, 2.5lbs. He is now a year and 5lbs even and it is still a good fit. My gosh he was a cutie!! They grow up so fast, savor every minute!!

So adorable! Back on topic ... I just met someone who has a crate like this, I was a bit skeptical but she swore by it. Where'd you get yours from?

I have the the progold small wire cage. If you want a visual of it just go to petedge.com. They are much cheaper than anywhere else and I got him the puppy blue bumper. For the car, he has a bungie leash that lets me buckle him into the seat belt. Might not recommend that for a smaller yorkie but he's pretty robust like 10 pounds. Hope this helps
