Drinkwell Pet Fountains? Need Some Help & Reviews Please! Does anyone own the Drinkwell Pet Fountain? I have decided that I would like to get one for my babies as today Tatum did THE CUTEST THING....omg lol! I was cracking up with the biggest smile on my face! She is so silly and such a character I swear...LOL. I bought a bigger water bowl for the babies because the cat drinks out of it as well and I was constantly having to fill the smaller one up. So anyway, when I go to fill this bigger one up, I will just get cold water in a tea pitcher and use that to fill the bowl. Well, as I was doing that this morning, Tator walked up just stuck her little nose and mouth right in the flowing "waterfall" going in to the dog bowl, LOL!!! It was soooooo cute (ok I know I sound nuts - but you really did have to be here :p). Gosh it was just precious that she liked to drink water that way :D So anyway, right then and there the Drinkwell Pet Fountain popped into mind and I decided that she HAD to have one, lol. Yes, she is spoiled and if I KNOW she likes something, she gets it :p I would love reviews on them though because I honestly know nothing about them really. Are there different types? Different sizes? How exactly do they work? All I know is that there is a constant flow of water (like a little waterfall) which I know Tatum will absolutely love....and hopefully this will get her to drink more water as to me it seems right now she doesn't drink quite enough. Also, where is the cheapest place to get one of these? I don't think anyone carries them here. I am going to look on eBay as well and see if I can find one at a good price on there. Thanks for any and all help (Tatum appreciates it!!) :D |

I don't have one but my mum has something called a Catit... it's for cat's but it holds plently enough water for Ellie the yorkie, Emma the Border Collie and Bonnie the crossbred. The love it, it flows constantly over a dome and there is also a reserve. It's just like this one except without the food bowl on it. Amazon.com: Catit Waterfall Cats & Puppies: Home... They all love it |

Bella is scared of everything. She would never go near it:rolleyes: She does run to me for a drink everytime i open a water bottle though:D |

there was this review High maintainance product Date: May 8, 2008 "My cats liked the product. I however, hated it! I had to completely disassemble and scrub it down weekly and you have to buy the kit with all the scrub brushes in it or you can't get into all the nooks and crannies. If you let it go for more than a week, it starts growing black mold in every corner. THEN, the filter molds at warp speed and you continually are buying new filters. I found it a whole lot easier to just turn on the kitchen faucet when Toby wants a "sink drink" than continually mess w/ this fountain!" but that was like the only bad review someone else said they just got a qtip and cleaned the crevices |

I got one Brooke, for our cat, because he was drinking out of the kitchen faucet.......thinking that he would love his own fountain - HA - was I ever wrong! He never drank out of it and Ruby, Reno nor the other cat would drink out of it either. It was a complete wash-out here. Also, it was a hassle to keep clean and refill everyday, although I wouldn't have minded if one of them used it ever. You might have a better experience though it sounds like since Tatum enjoyed her drink :) |

Actually though...I saw these reviews a little too late...whoops! :p I went and bought one of them today, LOL. I DID find one at Petsmart and just bought the darn thing...thinking well, if the babies didn't drink out of it, I can always bring it back. I was VERY afraid that they were going to be scared to death of the thing (especially Stedman) as NONE (Tate, Sted OR the cat) would drink out of a water bottle....they were TERRIFIED of it! I think they were scared of it though because the little roller ball on the spout made noise when they licked it - so it just didn't work for us. HOWEVER........to my surprise, my babies (cat included!) absolutely LOVE this fountain!! :D I was really shocked. Tatum took to it right away. She walked up to it as soon as the water started flowing for the first time and immediately got a long drink from the WATERFALL....lol.....it's like she just gets the biggest kick out of drinking water this way :p She is such a funny little thing lol. Then Stedman started walking up, and I thought to myself....well here we go. He isn't going to touch the thing...he will look at it, get scared, back up and walk away  But NOPE! He walked right up to it and drank more water than I think I have ever seen him drink in my entire life. Meaning at one time of course lol. Even Brinkley (the cat) loves it. I tell you, my babies are just plain weird :p They are scared of a water bottle that does nothing....yet this fountain that has water pouring out of it they LOVE. Go figure  Oh well, whatever works! And if it gets them to drink more water (which they need) then I am happy :D I don't mind having to clean it more often than a regular water bowl if it means them having clean, fresh water at all times and they drink more of it as well. So....so far, so good ;) Now, what hubby is going to say about THE DOGS having a water fountain when he comes home is a whole other story.....:p |

I am so glad Stedman and Tatum and the cat love the fountain! I just now saw this thread, and I have had one for years for my cat as recommended by my vet. Silki really likes the fountain too! Like people said already, just clean it out regularly. One tip--when you clean it out, be sure to open up the filter and rinse the gunk out....there are a couple of parts to it and I have to use tweezers to pull out the rod and cap to be able to get it all clean. Just check your instructions, somebody helped me with this when I was having problems with the filter. Good luck with it!! |

Also - I forgot to mention that I DO keep the little "waterfalls" level turned on the LOWEST setting. It's quieter this way and I am afraid that if I had it turned all the way up, it might scare them. This way, it doesn't :D |

I am glad Stedman and Tate like their new fountain!! I have two Pet Mate drinking fountains. One is a small and the cats drink out of that one. The other is a large and all the dogs drink out of that one. They all really love the fountain and prefer them over just a bowl of water. With the fountains I have it says to change them every 30-60 days but I change mine every two weeks to make sure they stay nice and clean. I will take the whole thing apart, including the pump, and really clean it thoroughly about twice a week and just wash it out about every other day. The water really does stay clean, cold and fresh!! The small one I have to fill up everyday but with the large one I fill it up every other day because it has a big resovoir. Anyways I really love them as do the dogs and kitties and I wouldn't ever be without one again!! |

right where the filter is, it gets very yucky and there is no way to clean that good , so no it didn't work for me........I want my babies to drink a good clean water like we do and I wouldn't drink from it after seen how it holds dirt/moldy in the inside. :( |

Cleaning Tips I recommend running the hard plastic parts through the dishwasher once a week, it really gets rid of all the nasties in the hard to reach places. Word of warning, do not put the extra water reservoir in the dishwasher, it will come out half melted. Experience talking here! The reservoir lid goes through the dishwasher just fine. |

WE have one 1 Attachment(s) and we LOVE IT!!! when i had just Cricket i used a tiny stainless bowl,, which was good enough but then with Daisy, ,it was too much filling and mess,, I ordered the Drinkwell fountain and filters,, Cricket (espeically) loves drinking running water,, the others do too,, I think they all drink more water using it,, the filters are not that expensive,, and the clean up is not a biggie for me,, even with 4 dogs drinking from it,, i clean it generally once a week,, i add to whenever needed,, but take it up and apart and just wash it all about once a week in the kitchen sink, its never a mess,,we love ours!! heres a pic of Daisy and baby Trixie at their fountainAttachment 225304 |

We have a larger version of a fountail type thingy outside for our lab. It's round with a "spout" that comes up out of the middle with water. She LOVES it and we have caught her trying to "swim" in it a couple of times!! She loves water though, and its more like she scratches the water out and plays in it more than drinking it. It is very cute though and we get a kick out of watching her!! I never thought of getting Izzy one, but she would probably like it to. She does the same thing where she will drink while filling up her bowl. Hummm..... we will have to look into that!! |

And..... my girls ALL Love it when I put ice cubes in their water bowls! they fish it out,, and CHOMP like its a Wonderful Treat!!:) |
