Flea products and baths Hey! Well, my little Rico recently has gotten fleas. He is pee pad trained and hardly ventures outside. However, he somehow got fleas. I have been using Advantage on him once a month. But now I know that it is not working. The people at the pet store said that maybe I am bathing him too much. I had been bathing him once a week. How often do you bathe your Yorkies? What flea medication do you use? I bought a flea shampoo which also prevents fleas, but I'm worried that it won't be enough. Any recommendations? Thanks! |
im glad you asked this...I hope you get some good answers! |
I like Revolution but if you want to get rid of the fleas immediately...bathe in Dawn original liquid detergent. Murfee got fleas last summer even with the flea meds and Dawn worked instantly. |
I've heard lots of good results with the Dawn. |
Please be very careful if you are going to use a shampoo. Most of those are highly toxic along with flea collars. The only only that I would consider are Frontline, Advantage (not Advantix), Program and maybe Revolution right now. Could you try just using Dawn instead? I bathe only when Ellie needs one and would prefer not to give one more than every week or two. |
Thanks! FYI, I bought Zodiac and it seems to be working great. We've used it twice now. It kills fleas and prevents them for up to one month. And I bought bath wipes from Petsmart, which can be used for "touch ups". Both seem to be going the job! |
Be careful with Zodiac... We used it on our Chow Chow with fantastic results too but when we got our first Yorkie, our vet said to discontinue use as the strong chemicals could have neurological side effects. We use Revolution now and bath every 2-3 weeks. Never within three days of the Revolution treatment though. Good luck with the Dawn... and finding a long term solution... I have those little buggers! |
