Xpen, Crating/Kenneling questions Hi all, I'm new here. I am Rachel from Alaska. I'm sure there are posts about this, but I have weeded through oh so many and even tried to use the search option, so please bear with me for this one. I am going to be getting my yorkie at the end of March. I would like to be able to have him in my room at night when I'm sleeping in case he needs to get up and go, but also would like to be able to have a place for him in the kitchen area for when we are home. My problem is that the kitchen is linoleum and my bedroom is carpet. I like the idea of him having an xpen type of set-up with a kennel/crate to sleep in, inside the xpen. However I am worried about what I will put underneath the xpen in my room? I know there are varying opinions on using pads versus going outside, I plan to do both until he can get a little older and hold it longer, but in the mean time would have a puppy pad only in the xpen area. Ideas, suggestions? Thanks in advance! |
i have plastic carpet runner under my ex-pen. i tried a shower curtain first but she managed to eat the center of it. welcome to YT! |
I bought a couple yards of that thick vinyl from walmart in the fabric section. Its clear and you can't even really see it. Mine were never able to tear or chew it. |
I have a half sheet of plywood with a piece of linoleum over it. It makes a nice 4 foot square pen. room for a bed or crate to sleep in and a pee pad. |
I have a piece of linoleum under my xpens... and they are in a tiled room (the grout isn't sealed... so I don't want any urine on them).... The linoleum works great! You can roll it up and store it if you put the xpen away. ;) |
Thanks for the ideas! All of these will work great! :) Rachel |
We got a piece of linoleum from Home Depot...we found some that matches our hardwood floors so it blends right in. It was inexpensive and has worked great and is so easy to clean once a week!! I would defintely recommend something similar. |
I have tried various items. I went to a carpet place and thy sold me some scraps of linoleum, It was very very reasonable and I could cut to fit or even piece them together.. I have also used heavy vinyl table cloths or shower curtains. All 3 work good. I like the table cloths or even you could buy bulk vinyl from walmarts fabric section.I bought 5 yards of some thick plastic table covering that has a pattern printed in it and it was so cheap I could throw it away if there was a mess I didnt feel like cleaning .I just cut it a little bigger than the pen and if they move it a lot I clipped it with small clips at a few spots on the outside of the expen |
