[NEWS] ASPCA Applauds Strong Sentencing in Animal Cruelty Case The ASPCA applauds the strong sentences received on February 9 by Joshua and Justin Moulder, who recently pled guilty to torturing and baking a three-month old puppy in a gas oven. They were charged with nine felony counts by the Fulton County Superior Court of Atlanta, GA, and will serve ten years in prison and ten years under strict probation, for a total of 20 years. The ASPCA?s Dr. Melinda Merck, a forensic veterinarian, and Dr. Randall Lockwood, Senior Vice President for Anti-Cruelty Initiatives and Legislative Services, testified in the sentencing phase of the trial. Dr. Lockwood was instrumental, nine years ago, in passing the law under which the Moulder brothers were sentenced. ?This is a significant moment in the history of animal cruelty prosecution,? says Ed Sayres, ASPCA President & CEO. ?It not only highlights the increasingly important role veterinary forensics and animal welfare experts have come to play in assisting law enforcement with their investigations, but it also shows how strongly the American public feels about the inhumane treatment of animals. As Judge Thelma Wyatt Cummings Moore, who sentenced the brothers said earlier today, how we treat animals reflects on our humanity. We are very proud to have been a part of this landmark case.? http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer...salert022307#5 |
  I think that was great! We have to have more stringent laws in this country or things like this will only get worse! We live in a "sick" society and it just doesn't seem to be getting any better! |
   :clapsmile :clapsmile :clapsmile Sad for the puppy but I'm so glad something was done to these maniacs. |
I can't believe it! Finally animal cruelty is being taken for what it is. Criminal. Good. I feel no remose for the two of them. I hope they suffer for 20yrs behind bars. I hope somewhere down the road probation dosen't save them from serving their sentence. They are sick human beings. Carol & Buddy |
HORRIBLE and cruel for that poor puppy .....but I'm so glad to see justice for these poor dogs that are abused tortured and murdered.....Way to go to that judge Thelma Wyatt Cummings Moore and the court for standing up to this kind of evil. They DID deserve prison time.... I hope each has a cellmate named Big Bubba for the whole time they're in prison. |
YES!!! Excellent verdict and I hope to see all future people who are cruel to animals suffer the same (if not worse) consequences. It's about time the government and laws protected animal rights. I just feel so sorry for that poor puppy who was forced to die such a painful and UNNECESSARY death. :( |

It is extremely SICK and beyond my comprehension to what kind of piece of tar can do such a thing. That's been said, I have read once in one of the journals of law, that often times animal abuse is difficult to pursue. Extreme case as this one would draw more of attention from media and public, however, abuse that goes on in less severe degree but on daily basis are difficult to be brought up to be prosecuted. And it said that financial factor comes into play. It's been a long while since I read that particular article, and I am not sure if there are attorneys who concentrate on animal cruelty. Though something more solid must be done for the issue. :animal-pa |
This is great they should receive time for doing something so nasty. Hope it spreads to other areas too (Justice that is). |
It's great that their cracking down on these nuts. How can you hurt a poor innocent animal. |
Finally someone is starting to take a stand for the rights of animals. I vote after those wasteful excuses of human beings get out of jail they should be sentenced straight to hell and see how they would like it to be baked alive. |
