NEW YORK ? When it comes to celebrity dog-parenting skills, Oprah Winfrey is tops and Britney Spears is the world's worst, according to an online vote by readers of two dog magazines.

"Britney was the overwhelming choice" for worst celebrity dog owner for 2006, Hilary O'Hagan, editor of The New York Dog and The Hollywood Dog magazines, said in a statement.

"She once had three Chihuahuas ... and never left home without at least one of them on her arm," O'Hagan said. "As soon as she met K-Fed and had kids they (the dogs) disappeared."

Spears has filed for divorce from aspiring rapper Kevin Federline. The 25-year-old pop singer and Federline, 28, have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and a 3-month-old son, Jayden James.

Paris Hilton, 2005's "worst" winner, placed second for "treating her dogs like accessories," the magazines said.

Winfrey, who owns five dogs, was voted this year's best celebrity dog owner. The talk-show host replaced 2005 winner Joss Stone, and beat off competition from Tori Spelling, Nicollette Sheridan and Beth Ostrosky, Howard Stern's girlfriend.

Voting took place online over a three-month period. Results weren't scientifically representative of the magazines' readers, and the total number of votes won't be released, O'Hagan said Monday.

Honestly I think the girl needs help to get herself together. But let's be for real...as much as we love our pets when you have a very small child to care for that needs a million and one things when you go out it's kind of hard to say that she is wrong for not toting her dog(s) around as well. I think that the poll is the most rediculous thing to come out right now. I can see her wrong doing in a lot of things but I can't blame her for scaling back on dragging the dog around while she has two small children.

I think the person that thought up picking on Britney there needs help. They probably don't have any small under a year old children either.

there's also a rumor that she gave away all the dogs. this was supposedly said by kevin federline. but hey who didn't see it coming? if it is true hopefully the dogs found good homes.

Either way - it is sad!

One rumor was that when her and K-Fed got together, the one dog didn't like him and always tried to bite him and such - it was said that he told her "it's me or the dogs" - I know what I would have chosen!! So, the dogs may have been out of the picture long before the babies??!! Maybe they are with her family OR atleast we can hope, they are in a better home!

Oprah just had a taped segment of her with her dogs on her show yesterday. She also had Caesar Milan on her show to help someone who was having a problem with their dogs with aggression.
