[News] Award Offered In Yorkshire Terrier Killing 2 Attachment(s) Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest of two men who killed a dog named Princess. Oakland police say the attack appeared to be random. The dog's owner said she was walking in a lobby of an Oakland apartment complex when two men pushed past her and picked up the dog. The owner, Lea Dunn, said she struggled to get the dog away from the men. Dunn said one of the men had a gun. She said the two men walked out of the complex holding the dog. Dunn, along with her boyfriend, said they followed the men down the street. She said the men were about a block ahead of her when they suddenly put the dog on the ground. By the time Dunn could get to Princess, the dog was dead. She thinks they strangled the dog. Princess was a 2.9-pound Yorkshire terrier. Oakland police called the crime a brutal and senseless act. Oakland police tell NBC11.com that they have received several calls on the case. You have any information, you are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (510) 238-6946. http://www.nbc11.com/news/7581305/detail.html |
WTH! What a senseless crime, that poor dog, that poor woman. Just BURNS ME! |
Ah god that just sicken's me,someone needs to find these scum and beat'em within a inch of their worthless hatefilled lives  |
This is so terrible! I will never understand how people can be so cruel to such defenseless and trusting animals! While it would be great for them to catch these people, it is sad to say that the punishments, while getting harsher, are not anywhere harsh enough. Boy would I love to open my own court house for animal cruelty!!! |
just two months ago, Junebug and I used to live in this area and Otis knows it well. Scary to think that this senseless act took place so close to home....terrible. |
Oakland is a very high crime rate . . . but to do that to a dog! What could be the possible motive . . .oh poor creature . . . I hope it was quick and painless for her so she did not have to suffer much :( |
Oh wow, glad Otis doesn't live in that hood anymore! Just terrible!!!!! :( |
Its things like this that make me just hate the world. I just dont understand how anyone could kill or even hurt a little dog. Did it bring them joy? This is just absolutely sick. Those sick ****'s need serious help. I dont even think they have a soul. I am happy to hear that crimestoppers is making a big effort to find the killlers. I hope they find them and justice is served. And by justice being served- I dont mean 2 lousy months in jail- I want some SERIOUS Jail time. If it were up to me I would give them at least 25 years ;) |
one more thing..... This is why I cant watch animal cops. It just makes me cry and feel horribly helpless. This thread made me cry. Princess looks so sweet and I just looked at my own Chloe and I just cant even imagine how it must feel for the owners of Princess. I hope I never have to feel that pain. My heart goes out to the owners. |
Omg she was soo cute! People really have some serious issues! That is such a tragety! |
I'm sorry but i have to get outta this thread, way to much pain. |
Update: Oakland police said today they’re still looking for two armed men suspected of stealing and strangling a woman’s tiny Yorkshire terrier last week. Officer Bradley Miller said the incident at an apartment complex near Lake Merritt about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 23 was “absolutely traumatic” for the victim, 25-year-old molecular biologist Lea Dunn. “Even if you’re not an animal lover, you have to be outraged about what was done to a small, helpless dog that weighed less than three pounds,” Miller said. He said the incident is “baffling.” Miller said Dunn and her boyfriend were taking a friend home when two men pushed their way past them as they entered the lobby of the friend’s apartment complex in the 100 block of Montecito Avenue. The men grabbed Dunn’s dog, “Princess,” which was walking off leash a few feet ahead. Dunn screamed and tried to wrestle Princess away from one of the men, but she and her friends backed off after one of the men flashed a gun. Miller said the two men fled with Princess, followed by Dunn and her boyfriend. The two men dropped the dog on the ground about a half-block away from the apartment complex and Dunn and her boyfriend found Princess dead, apparently strangled, Miller said. Miller said the couple has provided “some information” about the suspects and police hope to release a composite sketch of the men next week. In addition, a $5,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Miller said the men face robbery and animal cruelty charges. Oakland police ask that anyone with information about the incident call the robbery unit at (510) 238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 238-6946. http://cbs5.com/local/local_story_061151426.html |

Gruesome Dog Killings in Michigan By SARAH KARUSH, AP SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (April 4) - At first, piles of skinned animals, mostly foxes and coyotes, turned up on the edges of dirt roads in this semi-rural community outside Ann Arbor. Though gruesome, they looked like little more than the work of a sloppy trapper too lazy to properly dispose of the carcasses. Things took a more shocking turn on March 16, when what appeared to be someone's pet was found along with more skinned coyotes. The Rottweiler had been decapitated and its feet were bound with duct tape. Since then, eight more dead dogs, including three without heads, have been discovered by residents and investigators with the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Despite a reward that has swelled to at least $18,000 with donations from community members, officials have so far been unable to determine even who the dogs belonged to. The mysterious dog deaths - now being investigated separately from the wild animal carcasses - have rattled this picturesque Washtenaw County township, dominated by empty fields and wooded preserves and dotted with old, red barns. "There's one really, really disturbed person out there, or a couple of disturbed people." -- Kim Hart, whose dog Duke is missing Residents are keeping a close eye on their pets, and some have voiced fears that whoever is capable of killing and mutilating dogs is a danger to humans as well. The community's outrage was on display recently on Vreeland Road, near the site where a medium-sized yellow dog, thought to be some kind of terrier, was found March 22. "You will be caught! U will be punished U will Burn in Hell by God," read a sign nailed to a tree. Township resident Kim Hart said she fears Duke, her 2-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, may have fallen victim to the dog killer or killers. He has been missing since Feb. 16. "There's one really, really disturbed person out there, or a couple of disturbed people," said Hart, 33. "I'm hoping, obviously, that he doesn't have my dog." Officials initially believed that the dead dogs may have gotten caught in traps, but as more dogs have been discovered, that seems less likely, said Tanya Hilgendorf, the Humane Society's executive director. The nine dogs include three Rottweilers and three pit bulls. Hilgendorf noted that while both kinds of dogs can make good pets, they also are considered "bully breeds" and can be common "among young men who probably have aggressive tendencies." She declined to say whether that was considered significant to the investigation. The remaining dogs are a terrier, a Labrador mix and a cocker spaniel. Hilgendorf said none of the dogs bears signs that they were used in dogfighting and it's not clear whether they are from the area. Investigators have not matched any of the dogs with those on the Humane Society's missing list, which takes reports from all of Washtenaw County. Hilgendorf said it's hard to draw any conclusions from that, since the decapitations, as well as decomposition, makes identifying the dogs difficult. If they are being brought in from somewhere else, Superior Township would make a good place to drop off evidence of illicit activity. The 36-square-mile township of about 11,000 people is a rural oasis surrounded by rapid development. However, whoever dumped the dogs made little effort to hide them, dumping them on the roadside. Willful and malicious infliction of injury to animals, including killing, is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Until anyone is charged with the crimes, Hart is taking no chances with her remaining dog, 10-year-old Daisy, who is being kept on a cable. I don't want to take a chance of anything happening and somebody just trying to grab her," Hart said. "I'm just very protective, and this is exactly why." 04/04/06 03:11 EDT |
