[News] Md. Family Searches for Missing Yorkie for Boy with Autism CLINTON, Md. - A Maryland family hopes someone will hear their story about reach out to help. Their dog is missing, and it's not just any dog. He's the best of buddy of a boy with special needs. The dog has been a friend and an inspiration. This Yorkie named Gummy has been missing for just five days, but it feels much longer to 12-year-old Andy Breneman. Andy has autism. He named his dog Gummy after one of his favorite foods-- gummy bears. Andy didn't talk much before his family got Gummy a year ago. "I have worked very hard with Andy to get him as far as he can. This animal has pushed him a little bit farther to - I like to call it - greatness," said Andy's mom, Valessa Breneman. So you can imagine Breneman's heartbreak when her son's pet disappeared. It happened this past Thursday afternoon when a salesman knocked at the door of their Clinton home. Breneman opened the first door. Gummy pushed open the screen door and ran across the lawn. Andy's mom says she saw a dark SUV pull up just a few doors down. She believes the passenger in that SUV scooped up the dog and took off. "My heart has been breaking. You just don't know. I have been crying for days," said Breneman. She's posted signs all over nearby streets. She's also contacted veterinarians and the police in case she's correct and Gummy was stolen. Gummy isn't just "boy's best friend". He's also a lifeline. Breneman hopes she can soon welcome the dog home. Autistic Boy, Family Search for Missing Yorkie Named Gummy |
I hope they find him . Poor little boy. That must be heartbreaking for him not to have his best friend by his side. |
:( I really hope they find Gummy! If someone hears anymore about this story please post a follow up!! |
That is horrible:( I hope they find him! |
This is awful, that someone will just stop to take a dog off the street, when someone is yelling that's my dog. I hope and pray they give the dog back or at least take him to the police station and say they found it, just give it up, This child needs his dog. I just hope the dog has a microchip , maybe than it will have a chance. Hope to hear good news soon. bark@ulater!!!! manina, miley:aimeeyorkmax:aimeeyorksasha:aimeeyork |

Mean people suck! I hope they are able to reunite him with his family! How sad! |
I live in MD and I am a yorkie breeder believe me when I tell you my heart aches for you and your family. But, for someone to stop and grab up on a beautiful yorkie and take off they had every intention on keeping Gummy. Have you tried advertising in The Baltimore Sun and offering a large reward. Money talks....I wish you all the best getting your baby back safe and sound soon. |
This is a very sad story.I hope they find him soon. |
Awwww. This is so sad! Clinton is about 15 minutes from me. How heartbreaking for that little boy & his family! I will keep my eyes & ears open. |
That sucks! There is a special place reserved in Hell for whoever stole Gummy!!! |
That is one of the saddest things I have heard in a while. All I can say is I hope that whoever took Gummy has a change of heart and brings him back. Sadly, that probably won't happen but perhaps a reputable breeder will read this forum and donate a puppy to this little boy, it won't be Gummy but maybe it will help. I am praying for these people. I just don't know what possess people to act like they do :( |

Oh no! This is heartbreaking. I hope the news posts a story if he's found so that we know. |
Checking back in ......hoping there was good news.:( |
This is heartbreaking to read.. people make me sick when they have no consideration for other people.. this yorkie did not belong to them.. how can they live with themselves.. I hope the news station in the area will do a story on this.. it might help, maybe not help the thieves.. but it might make another person give them up... just a suggestion... I will add gummy and Andy to my prayers.. |
That is so sad and I do hope he gets his dog back. I know the family chose a Yorkie for their son's hope and inspiration but I don't think that a Yorkie is good for this type of work only because they will take off if given the chance. Had the family chose a Golden Retriever, it most likely would not have run off. I have a Samoyed and a Yorkie and if I open the door, they would take off like a shot even though my Yorkie is very close to me and the Samoyed is very close to my children. Good luck to the family and I pray he gets his dog back but we know how people are when it comes to stealing Yorkies. I think they are the number one stolen dog in this country. Aren't they? and the smaller they are, the more likely they are stolen. |
Wow I can't believe you said that without knowing anything about this family or child. I have been selling yorkie's for many years and I have had special needs children insist they want a Yorkie. They seem to like an animal they can cuddle and pick up. When you see these children bond with these puppies it is the most wonderful moment in the world. It makes me thank my lucky stars everyday to be able to give a child like that or anyone for that matter a gift of pure love and joy. I have yorkies that will run like the wind you let them out. But, they are just excited and want to play. I have others that I have to beg to get off my bed and go outside and than I have to stand their with them. The bottom line is this is a nightmare for this poor child and a disgrace to humanity for the people that stold Gummy. I am still crying myself over this. Lets all pray for Gummy's safe return PLEASE! |

I see no reason why the little boy cannot have any dog he wants. I was just trying to explain that some breeds are more likely to stay with their owners than others. I have found that some breeds tend to not run away. Even if they are not on a leash. Again, I am sorry for how it came out. |
keep your hopes up. hi just read about your lost furrbie, i have 2 & can not imagine life without them. i only pray that if someone has found him?her they will return your baby to you , my thoughts are with the family & especially andy, lots of luv from pauline & my furrbies pebbles & sophie. you may want to see my firrbies on the forum & it may cheer you all up xxx |
so sad  my yorkiepoo shoots out the front door like a rocket, and i can't ever sneak out. :( i am definitely looking into getting the microchip for him. it sounds like a planned scam, with the salesman at the door, with the suv closeby. they must have known there was a yorkie there. what a sick group to be able to do that. geez! :justahug: |
I have a yorkie for Andy This breaks my heart to think about what this child is going through if anyone know how to contact Andys family i have a beautiful little male that i am willing to give to him he is gonna be 12 wks on nov 25 |
Sounds like a scam. Have you tried calling the police and describing the man, and the van. I so wish your dog comes home. I worked with Special Kids in the past, and I know they are surely a blessing from God. |
