[News] Domestic Disturbance Call Leads To Dog Seizure Domestic Disturbance Call Leads To Dog Seizure - Omaha News Story - KETV Omaha OMAHA, Neb. -- Humane Society officials seized six Yorkshire Terriers from a home after police were called to a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived at the home near 51st and Maples streets Monday around 2:30 a.m. Tonya Hines, 39, and Charles Beuterbaugh, 53, were both charged with third-degree domestic violence. Police said the couple's injuries were inconclusive and they couldn't determine who was the aggressor. Police called Humane Society officials after finding six Yorkshire Terriers. The owners can pick them up after five days, a spokesman said. I will try to get updates on these dogs there was a video too |
I hope the yorkies are safe going back. They must have had a reason for taking them so why give them back?! |
The news said they took them because the were worried about there well being because they arrested both house hold members and that they were 3 dogs over the limit. In the video the yorkies looked taken care of from what I could see. |
Good for the police. They know that many people who are in domestic situations such as this also do harm to animals in the home. |
Lori I saw this headline also & wondered about these babies. I didn't see the video link. I wondered about the owners having over the limit without the humane society's knowledge.......makes me think that they were not vaccinated and/or licensed properly, otherwise they would have known they were over the limit. |
Yes Rose I thought this too... We can only hope that they had just found away around it.. I will ask Kara about them I am sure they are all safe for now.. |
That's sad:thumbdown |
Sad for the owners. How dare the police take their dogs? I would be livid if such a thing happened to me. As there was no conclusive evidence of physical abuse by either party, I feel the cops were trying to teach this couple a lesson by making it harder for them to get out (Both in jail thus harder for one spouse to bail the other one out.) Take the dogs and make them possibly have to pay to get all 6 out of the humane society after paying bail for two people. Fine for being over the limit, too. Possibly the cop might get lucky and the owners might not be able to come up with the money to get the dogs after paying bail leaving six beautiful Yorkies up for adoption. It would have been much easier to have one of the two go to a friend's house for the remainder of the night. Lesson learned: Never let the police inside your home. If they knock on your door, go out the back, locking the door behind you, and meet them out front making them show a warrant. Make sure your animals are secured inside. |
What a sad story! Looks like they should have at least been given the option of placing their pets with family/friends first. |
I talked to several of the people at the HS today and No one had even heard of the yorkies?? even Pam Wiese so I am not sure whats going on there.. but they were also not open yet.. I will try to find out more later |
Call or send an email to the news agency that reported this..I know in Tucson the HS was not the same as animal control and that is who would have the dogs as animal control is a city run organization like the police. |
Those poor, precious yorkies must of been terrified. |

Wow. First, you have obviously never suffered through a relationship that went to ugly places or you would NOT have suggested just sending one of them to a friends house. they said they couldn't determine who the aggressor was. so, what if they pick the wrong one? A man or woman who is battered then locked up? and at the mercy of their batterer to bail them out? Yeah, not a GREAT idea. Second, if you are right with the law, they are generally right with YOU. If there is an ordinance in their town saying 3 dogs, max, then by violating this, they CHOSE their own path. I am fine with people flouting the laws, just so long as they are prepared to pay for it if they get caught. Third, the police were GOOD enough to be worried about the yorkies. that there were 6 of them, and that the couple may or may not get released in time to take care of the needs of their animals shows that the police were being proactive in protecting not only the welfare of the humans in the house, but of the animals as well. I say YEAH for those cops, whoever they were. |

The fact is that if there HAD been children there, they would have been less likely to haul them both to jail. Since it was only dogs, it gave them a good tool to punish these people so they'll never make the mistake again of calling the police. I suspect, if the truth were known, that when these oafs decided they were hauling the woman to jail, she went to pieces crying about the dogs. Since she showed concern for the dogs, they decided to have them hauled off to prevent getting sued later for arresting someone that shouldn't have been arrested and leaving the dogs alone. |
