[News] Yorkie Mix Goes to Town for a Makeover 1 Attachment(s) When Harriet the mongrel decided it was time for a new look, she didn't hang around. She simply headed off for her own doggy make-over! The unlikely story began when Harriet's owners, the Mountford family, were preparing to drive into Attleborough on Monday morning. Unbeknown to them, the 13-year-old Jack Russell/Yorkshire terrier hitched a lift in their car and got a free ride into town. While mum Sarah was busy sorting out her three young children in the pouring rain, Harriet jumped out and took herself for a walk. It was not until about 3pm, when the family got back to their home a few miles away in Carleton Rode, that they realised she was nowhere to be seen. Not one to miss an opportunity, Harriet – also known as 'Harry' – had spent the day in a dog-grooming salon called Dapper Dogs – getting a free make-over. After sticking her nose in at a nearby bank, she found herself being taken in for safe keeping by Jenny Haynes, who runs the salon. "We were really worried about what was going to happen to this little dog. She was a bit smelly and we thought we would bath her, then we cut her nails. "Then I thought her face looked a bit messy so tidied that up. We gave her a little round face. Her hair had grown over her eyes and we sorted that out so her big eyes were showing and gave her a little hairstyle." And there was a happy ending to this shaggy dog story. Mrs Mountford, 35, eventually tracked down the errant pooch after contacting police, who'd had a report of a stray dog being looked after at the salon. "When the owner came she looked at the dog and said 'You look so beautiful'. She never knew the dog could look like that," said Mrs Haynes, 59, who also has a salon in Norwich. "She was adorable. She was so cute and a beautiful colour, with such big eyes. I was itching to get my hands on her body. She is a little dog, a country dog, and her hair just gets all tangled up. "I shaped the legs with scissors, gave them some shape and style around the feet." For Mrs Mountford, who admitted that Harriet was not usually the most image conscious of dogs, the transformation was a welcome surprise. "I've never been into a grooming parlour but I am absolutely amazed. They took her in and she's had everything. She looks fantastic, she certainly went to the right place. "She's a country dog…a bit of a scruff. I think it's been quite a shock to her as well, but she certainly seems to be quite enjoying it. I think I'll have to take her back again!" she added. http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/news/...A24%3A26%3A600 |
