I donated! Signing off for the weekend, pray for these little guys! |
I live here in Hillsborough county and saw this on the news last night. This is awful. I called Animal Services already as well. I definitely want to rescue one of these guys. I'll keep my eyes out for when they'll be available but please keep me updated b/c I would hate to miss out on adopting one of them, especially since they are so close. |
I am sending a 25.00 donation today to: Hillsborough County Animal Services and in the memo area write: Donation Fund-Yorkies, Yorkie Talk.com Member Mail it to: Hillsborough County Dept of Animal Services P.O. Box 89159 Tampa, Fl 33689-0402 I hope others can do the same. |
Is is possible the Humane Society can keep track of all expenses involved with caring and housing these sick pups thru this process. Maybe if these creeps are told how much it could cost them to even have a slight chance at ever getting them back their attorney would suggest they let them be adopted out! If the Humane Society said ok go ahead and want them back but a minimum it will cost you is $$$$$$$$$$$$ !!!! After all they are money driven, lets use it against them. And besides how can they pay for that when their butts are in jail! |
They should keep track of all the care and need of these dogs, and for them to be able to get any back, they need to pay for all the expenses, that went into getting the nursed back to healthy, if at all. |
I live right next store in pinellas county and saw on the local news this morning that the Judge had banned this women and her son from having any animals at the residence at all until further notice. He was really upset with her, the women is 85 years old and as she was standing in court he told her " If I find out that you have any animals in your residence I will have you arrested for not complying with court order, I don't care how old you are what I care about are those animals" This judge is my hero. Poor babies. It makes me sick thought I can't afford to take on another yorkie. I will make a donation to help these angels. |
I just sent my check..come on lets take care of these babies..if you love yorkies..do what you can for them..we may be their only hope to get all the care they need.. |
Those photo's make me so sad :(! Poor little fur buts. I feel so bad for the parents that have only known the inside of a cage! |
Oooh, this is heartbreaking. I am glad this placed was discovered and the dogs will have a better life. So sad. |

I sent a check but all i put on the bottom was for yorkies rescued fund..i am sure they will know what it was for don't you! |
UPDATE 24 of these babies will be for adoption on Thursday. I would love to take in another one, but Hubby just won't budge. I spoke to Marti at animal services, and she is so happy for the donations! She told me a story of one girl they saved, Muffin, who is 14 years old and has known nothing but living in a cage her whole life. Poor peanut. She has no teeth and mammary tumors. She needs the most medical treatment of the bunch and it is going to cost a lot! Marti also let me know that they need food, blankets, towels and bedding. I am going to try and find someone to donate blankets and towels. All dogs will be spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter. I am thinking of going by there tomorrow evening to take a peek at these babies. The adoption fee is less than $100 dollars, and they will leave spayed/neutered, microchipped etc. Oh I wish Hubby would give in! |
what a sad thing to hear such abuse .its all about the money not thinking about there future at all i am glad that someone took action .hope those baby get the care and the love that they need .keep me posted about the adoptions ok chicos yorkie mom  |

A friend of mine went down there today to turn in an adoption application and she said there were like 40 people waiting in line just to be approved to adopt. The guy there said when they have adoptions like this they have people camp out for the puppies. I just hope they go to good homes. I wish I could get down there but there is no way I could get over there before Sat. and I'm sure they'll be gone. |

I would assume that this little one will be given to a rescue in the area. It seems that everyone is very willing to help out so my suggestion we be to find out WHAT rescue she will be given to and make donations to them as well. We need to make sure that she is not PTS~which is a real possibility if her vet care will be too high. A very sick and old girl like this will be a huge drain of the funds of any rescue. Since you already have a dialogue with the shelter, I would run this past whoever you have been talking to to see if a rescue is willing to help her. IMO a 14 yr old yorkie who has been used all her life for breeding needs to be given a good life now that she is finally being released. :( |

Muffin the 14 year old is going to a separate organization called Lost Angels. I failed to mention that in my previous post, so I apologize. The person I have had contact with mentioned that her vet bills will be the most extensive. Not sure if you saw the fundraiser that is going on at my work (this was a couple posts back) but this is happening on June 26. The majority of the money I collect from that, will be going to Muffin. I am making a care package of food, blankets, towels etc to take to animal svcs for the other yorkies. They are making sure that Muffin will have a good life. That poor peanut. She deserves to have a good home after living such a sad life. |
I was so slammed at work today so I wasn't able to call Lost Angels. I will give them a call tomorrow and see where they would like donations sent. I will ask them for an update on Sweet Muffin, as well. I am going to ask them how extensive her vet bills will be. I have a close friend who is a vet... maybe they would be willing to do some pro bono work on her, if needed. I will keep you posted. Your responses and donations to Muffin show how big of a heart YT'ers really have! |

This is the link that I just found for the rescue you mention that Muffin will be going to. They have a Paypal to make donations. I would guess that her surgery for the tumors, dental, spay, etc. will be well over $1000. Just to give you a ballpark of how much a rescue will spend for a pup like her. Let's just hope and pray that her tumors are benign. http://www.lostangelsanimalrescue.org/ |
those poor sweet faces this is terrible :animal-pa |
Yorkie puppies ready for adoption 2 Attachment(s) Published : Wednesday, 17 Jun 2009, 3:38 PM EDT TAMPA - More than 60 Yorkshire Terrier puppies rescued earlier this week will be ready for new homes tomorrow. The small dogs were taken from the home of 85-year old Dovie Carter in Seffner and a trailer in Tampa last week. Investigators say both places were filthy, unsafe and infested with fleas. A groomer, Miss Emily of Groomer to You, is donating services for the dogs. Some of them will be ready for adoption Thursday at 10 a.m. on a first come, first serve basis to Hillsborough County residents with approved adoption applications. Adoption applications are available on the website Hillsborough County Government Online - Animal Services . People can turn in the form for approval on Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.at Hillsborough County Animal Services, located at 440 N. Falkenburg Road. Any dogs that are not adopted after 24 hours will be available for out-of-county residents to adopt. Carter and four relatives could face animal cruelty charges. |
Only humans are capable of suck evil! Im so happy these dogs are going to new homes where they can see what life for a dog is supposed to be like. and im glad somone finally decided to call in this tip! |
Bless that judge who told her he didn't care how old she was. Way to go judge! It's wonderful these babies have been saved and are going to wonderful, loving homes soon. It warms your heart to know so very many really do care and the evil ones are going down thanks to that judge. I love the ending to this story. It kills me when the dogs are returned to evil people, can't understand it when this happens. Yayyyyyyyyyy for that judge. |
Yorkie mania: Fans line up to adopt dogs seized in raids 1 Attachment(s) By KEITH MORELLI | The Tampa Tribune Published: June 18, 2009 Updated: 10 min. ago BRANDON - The front steps of the Hillsborough County Animal Services shelter this morning looked like the box office selling tickets to a Beatles reunion, if that was possible. Scores of eager fans lined up, waiting for the door to open to grab that rare opportunity. They weren't here for the Fab Four, though, but rather to snag another kind of shaggy headed rock star. Ladies and Gentlemen: The Yorkshire terriers. Although 75 people milled about this morning, only the first 23 of the popular breed are being adopted this morning, and their fans are rabid about the chance. And it was all over pretty quick: All of them were adopted before 10:30 a.m. The dogs were part of a pair of raids last week that netted 62 Yorkshire terriers and one aging German shepherd mix. The terriers, ranging in age from 8 weeks to 6 years, were seized at two feces-spattered and filthy locations in Seffner and Tampa, authorities said. Delaine Bacon of Seminole Heights was first in line. She had been camped here since 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. "You missed our little slumber party," she said, a bit weary, but eager to get through the door and collect her Yorkie. Since 1990, Bacon has had eight Yorkshire terriers, most of which came from a breeder who was raided last week, she said. "I wanted another Yorkie from that breeder and I figured this was my only chance." She said the breeder, who has not been charged, ran a clean operation, but as she grew older, it became harder to care for the animals. "She's a great person," Bacon said. "But she is elderly and I guess it became more challenging." The Yorkies sold for up to $1,000 each, animal services officials said and many required veterinary care after they were confiscated. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing. The breeders were not contesting the ownership of the dogs up for adoption this week, including a dozen or so that will be available at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay on Friday, officials said. A court hearing on the ownership of the rest of the dogs is scheduled for this afternoon. Potential adopters had to go through a screening process, which included approval of their application. The cost of adopting any dog at the shelter is less than $100. That pays for the adoption fee, spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations and an implanted microchip. Animal services spokesman Dennis McCullough chatted with the people this morning, saying the department is happy to help people get matched up with the dogs and to get them into "forever homes." But, he said, "We're anxious to see everyone go." He said a groomer volunteered this morning to come in and spruce up the Yorkies. "I was just in there and there are cute," he said. "They all are jumping around." The throng was not all that peaceful this morning, said Latanya Henry, talking about a fight that broke out between one of the anointed first 23 and a woman who was trying to save places in line for people not here. Henry said the fight ended quickly, but expects a "bum's rush" when the door opens this morning. She plans to get a Yorkie to replace one she had to put to sleep in September. "I figured if I can save one," she said, "I will." |
I am sitting here with tears in my eyes reading that story. How wonderful for the Yorkies and the kind hearted people who came to adopt them. May everyone live happy ever after. |
Man I hope they find good homes. I wish I could adopt them all. The punishment for those people should be put in a cage with the door locked and only fed through the door. ughhhhhhh. poor dogs. so sad.:(:( |
Deplorable I say put those people in the same conditions, dirty jail cells with feces, and cockroaches crawling all over them. How do you treat any living being like this. |
