Hey All,

Haven't been there in a week & a 1/2 but I took a friend & we helped open up newspapers for stacks so they could quickly use them to clean cages & replace them for the cats, rabbits, etc. We did laundry like crazy, & groomed 3 White Westies.

I saw most of the 300 rescues that have came in. Let me tell ya', it was heartbreaking but positive to see all of the wonderful caring people helping.

There are Yorkies, Westies, Shih Tzu's, Shar Pei's, some really cute mixes-they looked like either pugs/yorkies or pickenese/yorkies.

There are about 15,000 applicants alone just for the Yorkies........... it is CRAZY but Great! I think they are $300.

I reside over an hour each way to the shelter in Illinois. I spent 6 hours there.

Please contact them & fill out the liability waiver & volunteer even just 4 hours if you can.......... please!

You're an angel:) Looks like the yorkies are taken care of and since the others are mostly toy breeds they may be taken care of as well. I hope and pray.

That is sooo cool that you are helping out!!! I live less than one mile from one of the county branches of the Humane Soc and I dropped by to ask about volunteering. They told me the March 7th orientation class for volunteers was full and I had to go to the Apr 9th class. They told me you can't volunteer without going to this class. :-( I wanted to just hold the puppies and calm them but they said you can\'t until you attend oritentation. I\'m thinking it is a good thing so volunteers will be aware of the risks, liability, etc. but I was sooo disappointed. I didn\'t go see the yorkie puppies because I just couldn\'t do it right then. I ran into a lady in Petco who applied to adopt one of them and she said the fee is $300.

I\'m so gratefull that they are people like you all in this world. I literally cried when I was reading your post about starting a puppy train. I put my app in to adopt one of the dogs. I lost my yorkie this December and was debating on getting another when I heard about them and knew it was meant for me to have one. When I went to look at the my yorkie I had she was in a small cage that had fecies in it. She was very shy and didn\'t really like people. When I got her out of that cage to look at her I knew I couldn\'t put her back in there so of course I took her home. I knew I was going to be in for alot of work but just didn\'t realize to what extent. She didn\'t know her name, wasn\'t house trained, didn\'t want to be picked up, petted on, bathed, etc... I got her to know her name Lacey, and she even got to where she loved to bath and always wanted to be brused and prissed on, and wanted to be with me and in my lap all the time, but she never got completely house trained. I just hope the people that are lucky enough to adopt these angels know what lies ahead of them. It\'s pretty much a 24/7 job and you have to have plenty of patience. I\'m just praying that I get the chance to adopt one and spoil and love it like it deserves to be. I got a call the other day from a volunteer at the shelter that had to ask me a few more questions if I hear anything else I\'ll be sure to let you know.
