Sole Source Carb and Protein Dry Food :aimeeyork Hi Everyone. I'm not a brand new member, just one that reads and looks more than talks, but really enjoy this most informative site. Anyway, I have a furbaby - ZheZhe, she was found to have really bad allergies. Licking her paws and scratching constantly. We decided to put her on a sole source protein and carb to see how that would effect her. Well, whatever was in her food that I was feeding her (Premiumn Edge - all natural,w/Chicken) was the culprit. Now, after 3 months on Natural Balance - Duck and Potato, there is no more constant licking or scratching. But, I worried that she is not getting enough vitamins and minerals she needs from just Duck and Potato. I was thinking on starting her on the supplement Missing Link. Does anyone have or had this problem with the furbaby? And what did you do or recommend. ? Just curious. Thanks for any info. p.wolfkill |

How GREAT that this is working for her, bc allergies are miserable! As w/ most "allergy" kibbles, the protein is a bit low - so that can be a bit of a concern. You could add some extra protein back in, but ideally, you want to add the same protein that is in the kibble (since she's doing well) - and duck isn't easy to come by! You could try white fish bc that is a clean, easy protein. Using ML would be excellent. The intent of ML is provide what is missing between a kibble and what dogs should eat in "nature". Hence, the name "Missing Link". A bit of a lofty ideal, since it doesn't exactly provide all that - but it is GREAT for boosting the nutrition of kibble, and that is exactly what is was intended for. :D |
Allergies I know exactly what you're going through. We were the same. We saw a difference immediately in her scratching, but mainly in her licking. It would drive you nuts. I tried Zhe on food with Lamb, and she wouldn't have anything to do with anything that had Lamb. Another good source is the Fish and Sweet Potatoe that Natural Balance has, that is if you can handle the smell. Zhe like it, but the smell was horrible and if your furbaby gives you kisses all the time I don't know if you want to invoke the Fish and Sweet Potatoe. I have also started her on the supplement of Missing Link and so far so good, it's only been a week she has been on that and at half the dosage. This coming week I will increase her dosage and supposenly within 3-4 weeks we should see some difference. Especially in her skin and coat. ZheZhe has awful dry skin. Hope this helps. If you have a PetCo around you, that is where I find Natural Balance, they also have treats that are non allergen as well. Good Luck p.wolfkill |
