Home Cookin' for puppy. I'm debating whether or not i should start cooking for Sarge. It seems like he eats better when I give him rice, scrambled egg, and boiled chicken. Is this heathier for the dog? I'm no nutritionist so I worry I wont give him enough of certain nutrients he needs. Any thoughts? |
Ok, if you had a choice between all the nummy "real" foods, or boiled dead and diseased animals, which one would you choose? Dogs are smart. Listen to them! |
I homecook 3 days a week. If you are going to do it all the time they need a calcium suppliment. I have heard of people on here giving bone meal or baking eggshells then crushing them for them to eat. I dont do that since its only 3 days a week for mine |

Yes and I have some nice meals you can make that will keep his weight down as well as balance his nutrition. I had made the meat porridge because my Pom Bandit was picky in eating. But then he started to love it. Now The Yorkie Scoobdo is here he is back on dry for whatever reason I have no clue, but its fine by me. One thing hon, keep with ONE meal plan as the constant changing even with home cooking can cause him to not eat. And I mean measure and put exactly the same ingredients as you did, so you will have to measure and write it down. They can be so very picky if ONE tiny ingredient is too much, too less or missing:cool: . SEA SALT is good and beneficial in small quantities, table salt is A NO NO:thumbdown |
Thanks for the great advice everyone! |
SgtPeppersMommy, please let us know if you have any questions on homecooking! Yorkiedaze, Yorkieluv, and Marcerella02 (and others too!)were all great resources for me when I started homecooking. They are so helpful, and made me feel so much more confident in what I was feeding to my dogs. The least I could do is continue the favor of helping new homecookers get started! There are some great recipes in the Sticky for homecooked recipes-check there, and definitely check out the book by Dr. Pitcairn for some extra help on getting started. The book can be a little overwhelming at first, but all you need to know is in the first 100 pages-it's a great reference to have on hand. I pull it out at least once each week! |
