Urine burns?????? Peaches has urine burns on the back of her hind legs and near her private area :( . Her vet prescribed Oxydex and told us to apply twice daily on affected areas. Well I have been doing that and seen some improveness. Her private area cleared up but the back of her hind legs are still pretty pink and very dry/flakey. I'm just about almost finished with the tube of Oxydex. Should I discontinue applying the ointment on her legs once the tube is finished?? Im so confused... I dont understand why her legs had'nt cleared up. Has anyone else experienced this before???   |
Sorry, I can't help you there. I've never heard of this. I would do whatever the vet suggests. |
I would call the vet and ask him. I have never had this problem. Hope she gets better soon! |
With our Pom Comic it turned out to be Carpet Burns ! He was red on his butt, the back of his thighs, inside his thighs and even his penis *cringe* We were horrified when we saw the marks and rushed him to the vet. Comic swivels to turn around rather than stand and turn now because he is old. We have removed area rugs and where there is wall to wall carpets we have put down quilts. We use baby cream Zincofax on his sores. We also had cortizol cream. |
I never heard of this problem. I will consult your vet and ask what else you can do to heal the burns on the pups legs. Please keep us posted. |
My yorkie had urine burn also, and my vet recommended using desitin or any zinc ointment. Desitin is a cream that is used on baby's for diaper rash, so you can find it in the baby section or near the baby wipes. It's non-prescription and very safe to use. It cleared my yorkie's urine burn right up. It was very effective. |
Be careful with baby diaper rash ointments because they contain zinc, which is toxic to dogs if ingested. I would only use it if it would be covered with a diaper. |
