I believe he can. The vet will do extra blood work because he is over 7 but I know someone who had there almost 10yr old dog fixed!

Oh of course and please do so, this is the BEST thing that you can do for him.

Did you just get him? Anymore information about him that you would like to share? I'd love to hear all about him :D

MY moms male was fixed at this age.. he is doing great today :)

Here is the history...

I've actually had Bacardi for 10 years. I just never got him fixed.

but now, I have a 20 month old female yorkie and I need to get one of them fixed. I don't know what to do. I don't want to get the girl fixed because she is so cute and my aunt has been breeding yorkie for 10 years and thinks she might be able to breed her

Oh ok. Well, breeding her just b/c she is cute may not be the best idea. I am not trying to be rude or anything, it's just that I have 2 Yorkie that came from a breeder that probably did the same exact thing and both of my Yorkies have Luxating Patella in both rear legs, they BOTH have liver disease (probably MVD). One has Trachea Collapse and Allergies. The other has roach back and is missing most of his adult teeth.

While, I have to admit I think they are BOTH stunning - unfortunately, their parents should have NEVER been breeding dogs.

Best of Luck - If it were me, I'd have them both neutered and spayed, the risk of cancer only is reason enough for me.

I worded that wrong... SHe has royal in both blood lines from mom and dad. I paid nearly 3,000 for her

Oh ok. I didn't mean to sound rude. I was only going by what you posted and just wanted to make you (and others) aware that there are a TON of genetic defects within the Yorkie breed, b/c people aren't taking the proper precautions when breeding their Yorkies.

Back to your original post. I think you need to consult with your Vet. Then I would do a blood panel to make sure all is good with Bacardi. If all is clear and you trust your Vet, than I am sure all with go well with his neuter.
