To jab or not to Jab, that is the question Can anyone give me their opinion on whether to continue having my Yorkie Vaccinated each year. I have a Ten year old male neutered yorkie and up until now I have had him vaccinated each year with the usual things that Vets insist on. I have recently been surfing the web and have come across lots of yorkie owners amongest others who will not vaccinate their dogs after their first jabs. What do you all think? Can anyone advise me either way as these "horror" stories have really made me stop and think seriously about whether to continue. My dog in the past has had Colitis very badly and impacted anal glands every few months aswell as occasional old age incontinence which have all been cured through homeopathic treatments not medicines given by a vet. It would be great to hear from owners who have stories to tell and advice to give so as I can make up my mind what to do, all help greatly appreciated. Thanks Lisa Mitchell :confused: |
I think the findings on vaccinations are too new to really determine if the shots are necessary every year. It is one of those decisions you will need to make. One side is that if you don't get their shots and they become ill, you will be guilt ridden. Then on the other hand, if they get their shots, you will keep wondering if they were necessary. There is a test now that the vet can do, to determine if there is still enough vaccinations serum in the animal to protect against diseases. I can understand your concern with your little senior citizen. My dad, which is 80 does not get his little one vaccinated. After her first year, that was it. He said she is never outside to get sick. I hope he is right, for his sake. His little one is now 9. |
brownie got his shots as a baby and that was it same for kayko i have a 16 year old cat that had her shots when she was a baby and thats it its up to you everyone has a different opinion on this |
One important consideration is whether he is insured as many insurers will not cover dogs who have not had their annual vaccinations. With an uninsured dog personally I would stop vaccinating at 10-12 years old if I lived in a low risk area. |
Lucy had her most recent jabs yesterday. To be honest, I just dont want to take the chance of not getting it done and as Julie1 says, many insurers will not cover you if you dont |
