Im homecooking for Tank and I know we need calcium. I have egg shells from this mornings breakfast but I dont know how to use them. Can anyone help?

You can make your own calcium from egg shells and avoid any contamination. Buy organic eggs and after using the eggs rinse the egg shells thoroughly and put them aside in an open container. When you have gathered enough egg shells, put them in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes. Then when cooled, crush them and put them in a coffee grinder, or a fine grinder, until they are like powder.

EGG SHELLS DOSAGE: once a day

10 to 50 lbs 1/8 tsp.
50 to 75 lbs 1/4 tsp.
75 to 100 lbs 1/2 tsp.
100 lbs + 3/4 tsp.

You can also feed cottage cheese for calcium.:)

Sugar loves yogurt and it has calcium also. I was wondering, do you have to bake & crush the egg shells? I made some hard-boiled eggs tonight and I was wondering if Sugar could eat the shells. Seems like no matter what thought crosses my mind I find a thread about it on YT.

Human grade bone meal is also a good source of calcium for homecooked food.

Dogs have a much higher calcium requirement than we do. A small dog like a Yorkie needs approximately the same amount of calcium daily as an adult woman. That's why it's so important the follow a recipe designed for dogs and add the appropriate supplements if you decide to homecook.

Thanks for the info! It is interesting to know that eggshells can provide calcium for our furbabies! I don't really eat hard boiled egg, so when I do cook scramble eggs, can I just use that shells? I don't think it is any different than hard boiled egg shells right??

The calcium dogs need is found in uncooked beef bones....not diary products. Use a grinder to grind them.

Yes, you can use those. Just prepare them as directed in my post #2.

Yes, calcium can be found in eggshells...This is actually the calcium that is recommended by many vets and nutritionists.
It doesn't have to be bone meal if you don't want to use it.
