thank you for the advice, i will try whatever trick nec. I love her so much, it breaks my heart when i hear her cough. It happens mostly at bedtime. |
I pmmed you!! |
My little Dublin does this mostly in the night. He wakes up several times a night, stands up and hacks like a cat trying to expel a fur ball. He doesn't seem to get upset about it and goes right back to sleep. Otherwise he seems active, happy and healthy, (although a bit itchy, but that's another thread, isn't it! ). It started a few days after I got him, and when I took him to the vet, they gave him Clavamox for 10 days thinking it might be kennel cough. It seemed to have let up a bit, but 3 weeks later, he's still doing it. What I want to know, is how to tell the difference between kennel cough, collapsed trachea and reversed sneezing? Do they all sound / react the same? Is it just something you have to guess at, or are there certain symptoms for each ? As far as I know, he's never had a collar on or had any accidents that might have hurt his little neck... |
They all sound similar Maximus went through this ...they immediately said Collapsed trachea..on 2nd opinion I heard Kennel Cough..he took the meds and hasn't coughed since..this was about 9 weeks ago....it is very importatnt that they get the penicillian shot from the vet along with the meds to kill an infection that can result if it is collapsed trachea and even if it is kennel cough..an x-ray can show you the trachea but sometimes a endoscope is needed to be certain... |

He's 15 weeks old.. I was hoping for some insight in how to tell the difference. He did some teeny tiny sneezing for a couple of days, but the Clavamox stopped that right away. I've read on this site that sometimes it takes a while for the coughing to stop if it's kennel cough, but how long? Should I be more concerned / doing something? He eats, potties, plays... seems okay other than the hacking. He doesn't seem distressed as much as annoyed. Especially when he's in the middle of a good snooze. Any advice anyone?? |
