cleaning tartar, without a vet :aimeeyork I HAVE A 2LB 3 year old MALE YORKIE TO SMALL TO TAKE THE CHANCE ON VET CLEANING, THEY ALL WANT TO PUT HIM OUT, I THINK IT WOULD KILL HIM. SOOO I DID SOME RESERCH ON LINE AND FOUND A PRODUCT CALLED PETZLIFE ORAL CARE, ITS GAREENTED TO CLEAN THE TARTAR OFF THE TEETH AND THE BACTERIA UNDER GUMS, HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THIS AND WILL IT WORK? I AM TRYING IT TWICE A DAY FOR A WEEK THEN BRUSH, UNTIL TARTAR IS GONE TAKES ABOUT A MO. |
I havent heard of it.. but I have the actual tool that dentists use for people.. (my aunt was in the medical field and got me one).. and i saw them do it on Tv so every other month I clean Princess's teeth (along with her weekly tooth brushing).. by scraping off the tartar like what dentists do.. my vet says her teeth are exceptionally clean and he asked for my secret cuz i said i dont take her in for cleaning.. :D |
I've been using the gel on one of my cats. He had a really bad build up. It's clearing up very well with the gel. I'm really bad about doing it on a regular schedule. But we're still seeing progress with an at least once a week treatment and brushing. I'm very pleased with the results. We had started both cats and Brody on the gel. Only the one cat tolerates the stuff and will let us get close with a toothbrush. I do slip it to Brody every once in a while. I just hate having to put him through it. He runs around like I've put the worst thing ever in his mouth. LoL |
There are a ton of people on here that use Petzlife and love it.:) |
Petzlife is suppose to be excellent for dental care. I just don't know where you get it. |

I bought it from Sassypup and Cali's teeth are getting really white. Pixie's teeth are really bad and her gums are real red but they are getting better with Petzlife. |
I have used it for over a year and would not be without it. It really works! Bud is tartar free. Yipeeeeeeeeee We also brush daily. I have been using the spray and it's almost gone. I am going to try the gel. I think it will be easier to use. I use it twice a week. |

www.petzlife.com or a pet store should have it. Mine does but I don't use Petsmart or Petco |
Hey Guys! Sorry I don't get in here often to post but I just wanted to say that I was leafing through the net last week and ran acrossed this post and I'm really hoping that what you say is true and that Sheba will not have to be put under anesthesia to get her teeth cleaned. Not only because of the stress but because of the cost too! I order both the gel and the spray and got them yesterday. I usually use a wet washcloth on Sheba's face and teeth after dinner so I put some of the gel on the cloth and put it on and she didn't complain too much. Wait till I try out the Elmo Baby toothbrush that I bought!! She doesn't like toothbrushes so it may not work but either way, THANK YOU!! We adopted a Sheltie/Dingo for Sheba a few months ago because she's been so upset about the loss of our other dog, Brandy and life has been pretty cool but a little hectic as Sierra was 3 months old and had gone through quite a lot in her first 3 months. Her mother and brother and sister were caught as strays and brought to a kill shelter where they were rescued by a local animal alliance group that puts them into foster homes. I don't know what she went through but she's been here 3 months and is just starting to be less skittish! But...she loves Sheba like crazy. We always say that we got Sheba a puppy and we're just taking care of it. But, she's beautiful and happy and safe at last. Anyway...I'm going to keep at it with the Petzlife and hope that we can alleviate the need for a professional cleaning. I am guessing that I'm supposed to use it daily for the first month and then 2-3 times a week? It didn't come with a pamphlet or anything so that's what I gathered from the instructions on the bottle. I hope to get back in here more often and I'll be sure to let you all know of our success with the Petzlife and thank You with your wisdom and advice! Donna |
I understand that feeding raw bones and raw green tripe is an excellent tartar enemy. So I have been raising my current puppy on a home cooked meal and then during the day he is offered a slab of stinkie raw tripe and often a raw meat bone. The trips has plenty of the good enzymes that actually kills the bad bacteria in the mouth and gut. It is supposed to be the best form of a tartar fighting agent. Who knows, he is only 23 weeks so we will wait and see. I do try to brush a few times a week, but he is teething now so he does not like it all that much. Plus the smallest brush is too big for his little mouth:D When exactly does tartar start to form? |
