Just bought my 1st bag of Canidea... Some ?'s Making the switch from Innova Puppy kibble to Canidea All Life Stages Chicken & Rice kibble. The pet store where I purchased it only had the Chicken & RIce or the Lamb & Rice... not the general All Life Stages that has both ingredients. Does this make a difference in the quality of the food? Also, I was shocked by the price! It is about 1/2 the price of the Innova.... why so much cheaper? For those that feed this food... do you go by the guidelines on the back? It seems like a very little bit to feed... For Mickey's weight and age group (Mickey is 9 Mos & weighs 12 lbs) it reccommends 3/4 cup... Is this per day or per feeding? I feed Mickey twice a day. If it is per day like I think it is a very small amount and know that he will still be hungry and looking for food after. For his breakfast today I mixed it in with his Innova Kibble and he gobbled all of his food right up! I guess he like it. :) |
It's funny bc Innova prices seem to vary by store, where Canidae is pretty consistent, I find. When I fed kibble, I free fed - I think it's better for the dogs bc they get less "desperate" about feedings and don't tend to inhale it so much - that's just my opinion though. I always free fed w/ kibble and never had a weight issue w/ any of my pets. If it were me, I'd either free feed or I'd feed a similar "volume" as currently - and see how their weight is affected. Go w/ your gut, you know your baby better than the back of that package! :D |
I think that the chicken and rice is a good kibble but the one with the four or five meats is better. I think the one with more variety has more protein and it has less grain. The one with the different meats is rated higher on dogfoodanalysis.com, I believe. |
I feed Natural Choice, but have been thinking of changing to Canidea. It sounds like a good deal for the quality of food. Can I ask how much a 40 pound bag might run. |
