Which food is which??? My little Daisy is growing up! She's 5 months now and she eats dry puppy food. It's called royal canine. Dont know if anyone has heard of that. Well, what I want to know is what food do you guys feed your babies when they are adults, because once she turns one this summer I want to be ready and know what food is best. I know royal canine makes food especially for adult yorkies, so I was leaning toawards that.:animal36 PLEASE HELP |
Yup, I have heard of Royal Canin. I prefer homecooked food over any dog food. Some people on here do feed Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier. I don't really like anything from that company (although their food is better than some others). Have you thought about Canidae, Innova (high in protein), Welllness, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Solid Gold, or Orijen (this one is very high in protein and some people feel it isn't good to feed Yorkies but it is an awesome food)? |
hmmm..thanks for the info. I'll have to think on it. I have a while anyways =) thank you! =) |
It is so wonderful that you are doing research now. I wish I would've done that 5 years ago with Ellie. I fed her garbage for 5 years because I didn't know any better. I should of probably said why I don't like Royal Canin Yorkie. Oops:rolleyes: Here are the ingredients: Chicken meal, brewers rice, brown rice, chicken fat, chicken, corn gluten meal, dried egg powder, barley, natural chicken flavor, cellulose, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), anchovy oil, dried brewers yeast, potassium chloride, soya oil, fructo-oligosaccharides, salmon meal, calcium carbonate, sodium tripolyphosphate, choline chloride, dried brewers yeast extract (source of mannan-oligosaccharides) , taurine*, Vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol (source of vitamin E), inositol, niacin supplement, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C*), d-calcium pantothenate, biotin, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2), thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin A acetate, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement, vitamin D3 supplement], magnesium oxide, borage oil, Trace Minerals [zinc proteinate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, sodium selenite, calcium iodate], glucosamine hydrochloride*, L-Carnitine*, DL-methionine, marigold extract (Calendula officinalis L.), tea (green tea extract), chondroitin sulfate*, preserved with natural tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), citric acid and rosemary extract. The second ingredients is brewers rice. It is a filler with little to no nutritional value. The next ingredient, brown rice, is a better choice. It also has corn gluten meal in it. Corn products are a huge allergen. I also prefer not to see beet pulp in food. I believe it can cause tear stains and it may be an allergen. Again, there are foods that are a lot worse. Have a good time researching.:) |
Chip is on Canidae Lamb and rice, he seems to like it so far. |
All 4 of mine are on Canidae Lamb & Rice Canidae is for All Life Stages (puppies & adults). I feed it when weening pups too! I can't buy it here locally, i get it online at http://www.heartypet.com/ |
I've never fed Royal Canin...I fed Eukanuba until I found out what was in it, and then switched to Blue Buffalo, then to homecooking food. I still give them a little BB kibble from time to time. You can research your choice in food, as well as kinds you're thinking of switching to at www.dogfoodanalysis.com Most people on here recommend a 4-5 star food for yorkies. 6 star foods are for large working dogs, and probably are too much for yorkies. If you'd like more information on homecooking-do a search in this forum section-there's TONS of information on here. And, of course, if you can't find what you're looking for, please ask! Us homecookers are happy to help you get started! |
I feed mine Natural Balance, and they really like it. |
We fed the royal canine Yorkie for a a bit mine hated it. we are thinking of trying Blue buffalo. I know they loved the samples we got... |
I have heard of that, but never tried it. We eat Solid Gold, which we have never had any problems with it. |

mine eat blue buffalo and seem to do well on this one.... its the only one that all of mine will eat... d |
I feed California Natural lamb. They do really well. |
Hmmm...Delilah is on Royal Canin Mini Puppy too. That is what she was fed from the people we got her from, so I didn't want to switch. She seems to be doing really well on it. But now I am wondering if I should switch to something else. Oh yeah, I do supplement with home cooking too. She absolutely loves salmon and chicken with rice and vegetables. Canned pumpkin is also a favorite! :) |
