Vitamin Help.. Please. Thank you. Hi guys. I'm trying to find a good multi vitamin to add to my home cooked food. I leave dry kibble out all day (Chicken Soup) but at night I feed boiled chicken, brown rice and cooked carrots. I want to be sure that my girls are getting what they need and would like to incorporate a good multi vitimin to supplement anything that may be missing. Also, Lilly who is 16 weeks and came from rescue has very thin hair, sparse and I'd like to know if there is anything that would help her with that. Any suggestions on vitamins that you guys use would be great. I see quite a few multi vitimins at places like petsmart but I'd rather not take one because it says mult vitimin. I'd rather know what works best that any of you guys use. Thanks. Elaine |
Missing Link is a great vitamin mix. It is a powder and I think everything in it is natural. Their website is www.designinghealth.com. I know for sure Wylie's Mom uses a supplement that has just about everything in one also. |
You may want to check into B-Naturals Supplements. http://www.b-naturals.com/ They have formulations that are specific circumstances. We are using an immune system booster from them for one of our girls. ~Lorene |
For sparse, thin hair, I would recommend Fish oil (omega-e EFA) and Vitamin E. These two supplements have worked miracles with Miko's coat. |

by the way your yorkie's coat is beautiful! |
Thanks diggy4 :) fall0317, They come in capsules, so you can pierce the ends of them and pour the contents over their food. But not the whole thing....You only want to add part of the contents like half or less for an older pup or adult dog, but your puppy is very young...He might get diarrhea from the sudden change so it would have to be a very gradual thing. Honestly, I'm not sure what to recommend for such a young pup. I'll try to find some info on it, or maybe someone else knows... Thanks for the compliment on Miko's coat :) That's very sweet! Also, I want to say sorry for the typo earlier...I meant omega-3 LOL |
Are you following a recipe for your home cooked meals? Dogs have specific nutritional needs that must be met. You can't just throw a few ingredients together. If they stay on home cooked long term, they need supplements. Dr. Pitcairn's book is great for recipes. Also, your vet probably has some he can print out for you. Dr. Dodds recommends using a good infant (not children's) multivitamin drop. Here are the other vitamins you need to add: http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...pplements.html |
I like this one, it has everything but the extra calcium: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/produc...at/999065.aspx |
Yes, extra calcium is a must. Most people who homecook add bone meal. |
