My GSD eats Nature Variety raw and kibble... Does anyone feed their baby this brand and if so what has your experience been? |
My yorkie has eating Nature's Variety raw medallions for a year and a half now. I alternate rabbit and venison every day. She's done great on it! It's not a good idea to mix raw and kibble unless you really spread out the feeding times. I know with bigger dogs raw gets expensive, but a yorkie doesn't eat much so I'd just feed the raw and forget the kibble. |
I feed raw, but not premade. As MyFairLacy explained its really not a good idea to mix the two because as raw takes 4-6 hours to digest and kibble takes 12-14 the raw can end up stuck behind the kibble for many hours which can cause digestive upset. Better to just forget about the kibble. |
I have been feeding Natures Variety canned and kibble for about a year and a half now. Lady can't eat raw because she is diabetic and has a weakened immune system. Her body can't handle the extra bacteria found in raw like a normal dog can. I have been very happy with this food. Lady has allergies and I rotate through the foods like they suggest and her itching and chewing has stopped. I feed her the ones with "odd"" protein like venison, duck, rabbit, and salmon. Lady's vet told me that Natures Variety was one of the few commercial foods on the market he would recommend. |
Thank you-- this is good to know--I really like this brand of food so I was hoping to be able to stick with it-- at least down the line when I get a babycakes.:animal36 Our GSD can't eat the regular foods even the Canidae or Nutro products. And I actually feed her medallions with her kibble.-- She even likes them half frozen so she can chew on them! LOL |
I plan on switching Layla over to Nature' Variety raw, she is just getting over allergies right now and i wanted to wait until that is over with before switching her food. |
I feed the raw and I use different kinds of kibble, too. I use them far enough apart to not cause problems. (hopefully) My dogs LOVE the raw diet. :thumbup: Their favorites are the beef and chicken. I buy it in the patties cause I have more dogs to feed, but if you just have one or two, the medallions are very convenient and easy. The patties are cheaper in the long run when you're feeding more dogs. The dog I got when she was six months old has been eating this since she was a pup - she is 19 months now. |
I tried the medallions and I like them-- my dog loves them so I was considering the patties since they are cheaper in the long run-- I like the fact that you can switch flavors without messing up your dog's system--Frankly I would get bored eating the same thing everday forever! LOL:aimeeyork |
