CANIDAE PROBLEMS!? Please HELP I switched my 5 lb 12 month old Yorkie (I adopted him after his owner had neglected him) to Canidae All Life Stages dry food and wet food since he will not touch his food unless it has wet food. He is the pickiest dog I've ever come across and won't eat any snacks. Suprisingly, he will eat the Canidae combination of wet/dry food, but it is hard to get him to eat right away. I usually have to microwave the food a big (he prefers it warm). It usually takes him an hour or so to start eating after I've prepared it for him. Sometimes I have to hand feed him to get him interested! From time to time, he gets distracted ant comes back and forth to his food. Does anyone have this problem?! Lastly and most importantly. I noticed that the kibbles for the All Life Stages dry food are pretty big. I noticed that he rarely chews the kibbles but just swallows them with his wet food. I noticed in his stool that the kibbles are coming out whole! Maybe this is why he's reluctant to eat his food because it looks painful for him to poop (mind you, he's only 4.5 lbs). Do any Canidae lovers notice this in their Yorkies' stool, or is it just me?! Lastly, is this painful and problematic for him to be pooping whole kibbles? I thought Canidae was so superior because of their easily digestible ingredients? Does canidae make smaller kibble for smaller breed dogs or should I switch to Solid Gold "Just a Wee Bit" Small Breed puppy kibble? PLEASE HELP YT!! |
My Yorkie only swallows kibbles whole when there is wet food mixed with it because I have the opposite problem. She is a pig and eats most soft foods really fast. I have to give her one or the other so she chews her kibble. If it was coming out in Ellie's poop whole, I wouldn't feed it to her. |
If its coming out whole then he is not digesting it properly, which is not good. Perhaps feed dry and wet seperatly, or stick with just wet. |
I used to break the kibbles to smaller pieces and mix a little water in just to make it easier for him to eat. |
We feed Canidae to both our Yorkies and our Rott. The yorkies are a little over 3 lbs and 6 months old and are doing just fine...When we first got them, I mixed it with Spot's Stew cuz' I was worried about them not eating.....Now they eat it dry just fine... |
I feed all of mine Canidae dry food. Tigger who is only 3.5 pounds eats it without any problems. I would try giving him the food separately instead of mixing it to see if it helps. I myself thought the kibble in Canidae is pretty small, I haven't seen very many that were made smaller. |
Maybe you can mix his dry food with a little water to make it softer and more digestible. |
Have you had the vet check his teeth? Does he have a bad odor coming from his mouth. It might be painful for him to eat. |
