Tears/streaks My kirby has been tearing ( has the streaks)since I got him, he is over 5mos now. Do many of you deal with this and what do you do? Vet doesnt see it as health problem. |
I was told that giving only distilled water to your yorkie to drink will help. Also, cleaning the eye area daily cuts down on the staining. I also know there's some great products to use, but don't know what those are. Hopefully, someone else will. |
I use either a warm washcloth or gauze with baby shampoo, and wipe off the area. |
Puppy tears Our Charlie, is 10 weeks old. We've had her for ten glorious days...I am happier than, well, you can imagine. Her eyes are always teary -always. Is this normal? |
Some tearing is normal - but if it's excessive, it has to be caused by something. Often times, watery eyes can indicate a food allergy - so it would help to know what you're feeding. If it's physical (ie, tear duct issue etc), then there may not be a whole lot you could do. It's not green or anything odd, is it? |
More tears... The tears are clear, nothing odd, no clumping or mucus. Just always wet marking. What defines normal tears in a dog? When I look at other pictures on the site, the Yorkie's hair under their eyes looks dry...Charlie would only look that way if I had just washed her and let it dry. It is not excessive, when I touch it I do not come away wet. It's mostly just un-cute. What kind of allergies could we be talking about? At the groomer's I was assured it was normal by a pack of doggie stylists. I don't have a vet appointment until the end of the week. My mother says I pick on my newborns too much. Happily, everything else with our new pup is lovely. She is happy and playful and loving and wild and sweet. I may have never been happier. I appreciate your conversation on the matter so much! is Wellness right for my puppy?? I know this post is old but I just wanted to bump this post up to the new ones.... I was previously feeding Jacoby, Chicken Soup for the Puppy Soul. He started to get dry flaky skin and the vet said that it was probably yeast, so I started putting lotrimin on his skin every day, hoping the flaky skin would go away. Then I decided I wanted to add some dry food to his diet. I picked Royal Canin indoor puppy. His skin seems to gradually have gotten worse. Instead of just having flaky skin on the top of his head, it spread to his body. It does not seem to bother him though. He also has teary eyes. His face is always wet with tears. From reading some other posts on Yorkie Talk, I am assuming it is from the food I have been feeding him, so I switched to Wellness Puppy. Do you think that Wellness Puppy is a good food to switch to? |

Punkin has very minimal tearing and it completely stopped for about 6 weeks. I tracked down the problem - we were completely out of her favorite treat (locally made, certified organic). As soon as we got a new bag the minimal tearing started again. On Christmas day Punkin got into cat good while we were visiting and ate a whole bunch and got quite sick for a week. The tearing started so bad I could hardly believe it. I had to clean her eyes twice a day. It is getting better slowly. There may be other reasons but for Punkin I can definitely see that has been related to her food. |

I use a product called Angel Eyes for the stains on my white pommie. It has worked wonders. Buuuuuttttt-----on another post I read that some did not like Angel Eyes because it worked internally. I tried all the products for tear stains for my Bichon. The product that worked the best was Angels Glow. It worked wonders. I did a of research and thought maybe it was her food. I switched to the Nature's Variety raw food. When I keep her on the lamb or venison, she doesn't have any staining at all. I ran out and had to put her back on some kibble I had here and with in a few days she had the tears and staining back. So it must be an allergy with Chloe'. |
