eating less on dry food...? ok, last friday we switched nugget over to dry food. he really loved the wet food, as he would eat everything in his bowl and lick it clean. on the wet food you could also tell that his stomach was full if you touched it. we switched him over to the dry food and the bag says for puppys his age to feed them a full cup. this seems like way to much food for a 3lb dog so we gave him about a half cup to start off. he ate about a forth of it. lately he has only been eating about a 1/4 cup twice a day, with a treat here and there for rewards. is this not enough for him? it doesnt seem like his belly fills up as much. maybe he just fills up quicker on the dry food? we try feeding him a lunch but he never eats it. hes normally hungry when we wake up and around the time we eat dinner. is this normal? should we try different food? thanks for everyones help! |
With the dry as he drinks it will swell so don't even try to "fill him up" or you will have an explosion  Mine all eat less when offered dry it doesn't seem as palatable which is why I feed part wet part dry. |
I feed Chewy only about a 1/4 cup a day of Natural Balance kibble. He seems OK with that much and eats it throughout the day. He also gets treats here and there and then a couple of times a week some of the NB meat rolls. I think it is important to feed a quality, premium kibble, not something from the supermarket, JMO. He will adjust to his new food, don't worry - yorkies are notoriously picky eaters. |
Only 3 lbs, i wouldn't think he could hold a cup of food. My 6 lb yorkie doesen't even eat that much.. |
well i'm feeding him eukanuba puppy food for small breed doggies so its not just supermarket food, but thanks for suggesting that! we have always tryed to keep him on the same diet, but it was just hard to tell if he was full or if he didnt like the food. i have a little of the wet eukanuba that was never opened that i think i might try to mix with the dry once a day. he probly only eats about a 1/4 cup a day so it sounds like hes eating ok. thanks guys |
