Sissy....eats..eats I have always boiled boneless chicken breast and mixed it with their dry food. I has got to the point where Sissy will not touch the dry and eats only the chicken. Im sure she isn't getting the nutrition she needs ,could that be why she wants to eat all the time? She barks at me like 4 times a day wanting food. I would like to cut the chicken out so she will eat her innova,I have tried in the past and two whole days went buy she didn't touch the food and cried all the time.:( I need some serious advice about this,do I cut out the chicken and wait it out,how long should I let her go without eating? |
I am a FIRM believer that if you just keep putting her food down whe she normally eats, and if she doesn't, take it up. Put it down again at her next feeding. If she doesn't eat, take it up. A dog WILL eat when they get hungry. She's going to hold out and hold out and try and test you to get you to do what SHE wants. And she is not boss, you are. She will eat her dry food when she is finally hungry. Trust me. |
Well, maybe in your house you are boss, but here they seem to have the upper hand....:p |
You do have to get the upper hand when it comes to this. I'd do what the other poster said. When she gets hungry she'll eat. |
I hear you. I try to be the boss but sometime Momiji thinks she is!! I do only feed boiled chicken once a week. After that, she won't eat dry food but I keep giving her only dry food. She eventually eat dry food even though she is looking at me like "Mom, I hate you for this!!" lol I know I spoil her too much. Is it too late to change that???? |
OK,Sissy has not eaten a bite since yesterday morning when she had her chicken mixed in. How long do I let her go without eating?? |
I couldnever do the "let it sit" either... I felt like they just werent getting nutrition. When mine eat around the food, I mush the chicken and add a little hot water, this way they "think" they are getting the chicken and it works.... but then again, I have also been known to hand feed my Hopey.. haha Good Luck to you... |
Thanks for replying Donna. Well ,as I type this she is eating a few bites of kibble.I feel like such a mean Mommy though. :( |

Chloe has gone a few days without food before:eek: ... She was fine, but I was a nervous wreck!! I agree to just keep putting down the dog food and nothing else. |
I worry about feeding different foods because of the colitis. They willl get the poops if I feed them the smallest amount of almost anything. Do you start out with small amounts to avoid that? Can you give me a example of what you feed? Quote:

I would personally (and this is just my opinion) never let Ellie go without eating. If she didn't want kibble I would feed her people food (nutritionally balanced). I would put my foot down if she only wanted the meat in the people food and didn't eat her veggies though. I would probably force feed then. |
i agree with the first couple of posters. Cut out the chicken and strictly feed her the kibble. She will eat when she is hungry and realizes you are not going to give in. she is a dog, and dogs will not starve themselves. she may go a day or two without food and that is fine. it won't hurt her. be strong and don't give in. its fine. it you want, just to make yourself happy, give her nutrical if she doesn't eat a meal, tho she doesn't need it. |
How do you force feed? Quote:

Cook up some brown rice and mix some free range ground beef or lamb into it. Some cottage chees and plain yogurt are good. 1/4 of a boild egg mixed in the rice and meat is good. Cheese is good to feed. Oatmeal is fine and can even be cooked useing beef or chicken broth instead of water for extra taste. I can give you tons more info if your interested. Just pm me. |
