Puppy won't eat dry fod anymore? Sarge, my 9 week old puppy had diarrhea for a day so I was told to put him on a bland diet of scrambled eggs, boiled chicken, rice, baby food (chicken and beef), etc. Now that he has normal stools, i tried giving him his dry food again and he wont eat it. I tried mixing it with wet dog food and each of the above and he eats around the kibbles. Will he ever eat dry food again? I understand that it is very important for their dental health. Please help. |
What kind of kibble is it? |
Eukanuba small-breed puppy, it is the same kibble the breeder had him on. :( |
IMO - Euk is not a very good food. Here's my rule: NO By-products (in any form of text) NO Corn (in any form of text) Absolute NO-NO = "Made in China" or "Not for Human Consumption" May I suggest a few better quality foods, that have some taste to it: Canidae Wellness Solid Gold Natural Balance Merrick Try going to a few of those brands websites and check out what store's in your area carry them. Most of the time, they have samples for you to try some out. ;) |
The idea that dry food cleans their teeth is a myth, in my opinion :) This has been equated to humans eating crackers to keep our teeth clean. You still need to brush their teeth or use a produce like petzlife oral gel. In fact, Premium canned food is better for them than dry food. It is much less processed than dry food and it contains more moisture which is better for them. I agree that Eukanuba is not a high quality food. Try www.dogfoodanalysis.com and look at 4 and 5 star foods. If you have a Petco near you, Solid Gold is one of the foods that is considered high quality that many dogs seem to like. |
Have you tried mixing in a small amount the bland human food with the kibble? Dogs will eat their food when they are hungry enough. |
The breeder I got my little Suzy from told me not to give her cooked or raw eggs as it can strip the nutrients from her stomach... so on that note maybe the scrammbled eggs aren't such a good idea? Can anyone verify this? |

Just keep giving him his dry food. When he's hungry he will eat. |
I switched him to Diamond-Small breed Puppy, and now hes eating fine. I think the other stuff upset his tummy, possibly the corn filler that it contained. The new food has no corn fillers and He's doing really well on it, Thanks for all the posts! :) |
