Is there an over the countier meds for Yorkie's? My 11 year old yorkie had hip surgery when he was a puppy but now that he's old it hurts him and he has arthritis, what can I give him for pain till I can see the vet on Friday? |
You can give him baby aspirins. I'd call the vet for the exact dosage. |
Have you given him any Glucosamine supplement to help with his arthritis? It won't kill his surgery pain, but will help with joint mobility later on. |
There's an over the counter drug called ascriptin that is an aspirin with a coating of maylox (maelox? malox? how the heck do you spell that?!). It is very gentle on the dog's stomach. |
if he's older, you ought to put him on glucosamine. just be sure to research and get your dosage correct. But you can get it in Wal-Mart and it's much cheaper than buying some that is marketed for dogs when it's the same thing. I give my guys theirs in a spoonful of peanut butter, which they LOVE. I even give it to my younger babies, since we're planning on getting everyone into agility eventually. I want to make sure their bones and joints stay healthy. |
