Swollen teats Bella had her first heat a couple of weeks ago. It lasted a little over 2 weeks. She is now 11 months old. She was never out of the house alone and there is no way she could be pregnant. However, the tissue around her teats are swollen like little breasts. The swollen area is about the size of a nickle on each one. Is this normal? There is no discharge and the tissue is quite firm! Thanks for any info! |
Daisy just finished her 1st heat and she is experiancing the same thing. I do believe it is normal as so i have heard. but it could also be a false pregnancy?? |
I would take her to the vets, she could be having a false pregnancy. |
If it a false preg.. do you know what they will do? |
false pregnancy Sounds like she is having a false pregnancy. You might put warm compresses on her teats if they are hurting her. But, if unsure, take her to the vet. Lynn |
False preg...Place a warm clothe around it and she will be fine:) Similar to some of us after our monthly issues |

I just did a little reading about it. Bella doesnt seem to be acting any differently when I rub her belly. The article stated if she were having a FP then any tactile stimulation should be avoided or it could bring milk!!! I am calling the vet next week to schedule her surgery. If she is in FP the article stated spaying a dog during a FP would actually delay it from resolving. It also indicated that most dont need treatment. But, I guess the vet will have some answers! |
teets This is very normal...a small lump under each nipple is not cause for much concern following a cycle...some even have a bit of milky discharge...it should end in a week or so, but if she continues, then I would check with the vet to ease your concern..Kate had this a few months back after her season, but in a week she was back to normal size...any swelling that enlarges the entire breast is cause for treatment. |
