SO aggravating! Ok, This is the only place I can "vent" and people will actually listen to me.. This morning while I was asleep, My family was feeding Cocoa meat (steak). Its so aggravating because I clearly said "Do NOT feed my dog people food", over 100 times. They just don't take me seriously. They don't see anything wrong with him eating people food, OK I can see a tiny piece once in a while but NO. NOW he won't even touch his food all he wants is people food, How am I going to make him eat his food now? :thumbdown Sorry I just had to get that out. Thanks for listening.. |
I understand but sorry I can't help you. Good luck trying to get him to eat dog food again. |
Tell them that when your pup has to spend the night at the vet's office with severe collitis, you'll let them pay the bill! Ask Peebles mom how much her bill is going to cost her for the same thing this week. Let your pup crap in their room when he gets the runs. |
Just keep on trying to give her dog food. When she's hungry enough and realize that dog food is all she'll get, she'll eat it! |
Not only is it bad for their little tummies, but if it is too big they can choke. Also, steak pieces can get stuck in their teeth which is not considering all the dental problems. Appeal to them with medical issues and let them know all the ways puppy can be hurt by this. If no response, restrict their time with her. |
My parents tried to give Bella some steak last weekend, but they asked me before hand and I said no. That it was not good for her. They respected it and didnt give her any. I think they think that its good for them becuase its pure food without additives and stuff. But you should really try to stress to them the harm it can cause. She wont be able to handle all the calories and fat from the meat. |

I know exactly what you mean. When we went to an Easter family gathering everyone wanted to hold Chloe and then they would try to sneek her Ice Cream and CHeetos!! I was so pist. I had only had her a few days. And later that week we had some major hypogycemia problems because chloe didnt want to eat puppy food. |
OR..... ....it is the same thing around here.....But I also hear myself in my sleep...... "Be careful..."......... "Watch the door..."...... "Don't let the kids just drop gummie worms all over the place..."......... "Close the gate..."..... "Don't squeeze her neck and she won't bite you...."........ "Don't let her in the bathroom ...."...... "Watch the door.."........ "I said, sit in the floor to play.."....... "Pick up the sippy cup out of the floor..."..... "Watch the door..." "No, she can't have any ice-cream...." "Watch the door...." And on and on and on and on...... Sometimes I feel like a big old nagging recording......... I eventually did make my point about the 'people food'.......enough runny poops helped!!!!! Now I just wish they would listen to the part about the door before someone / something really gets hurt!! |
That's not good that they don't listen to you. Tell them that "what goes in must come back out".... ....and bless her heart, but if and when it gives her diarhea in the house, make the people that fed her people food be the ones to clean it up!!! :p PS. This is my post # 998 - just two more to 1000! Exciting, huh?! |

...I have a time with my husband cause he likes to sneak mine food - but he's pretty good about only a bite or 2 - OK ! I Confess - I do it too lol...but they eat their regular food so we don't have a problem.. Good luck with your family - and giving them a vet bill is a great idea - you could FAKE one just so they can get the shock value... and then tell them this WILL happen one day if they don't listen to you - good luck and vent away - I know I would :) |
I know exactly how you feel and I do my best to keep my family from feeding them red meat too. I have given my husband special treats for the dogs that they love and only he has because he likes to give them something special every now and then so this has helped a little. |
Thanks for all your replys! Cocoa seems fine so far. He actually ate a bit of his food. :) They said it was "Only a tiny bit" Of steak  But if he gets sick later, They are going to be the ones to clean it up. :yelrotflm |
when we first got Buckeye we gave him anything he wanted. i poached him an egg in the mornings and he had his own meals. (people food). one day he got really sick. he was vomiting blood. i rushed him in to see the vet. the first thing the vet asked me is "what are you feeding him?". after fasting him and medication for a week or so we no longer give him those things. Bless this site i now have learned what is safe for him to eat. He really scared me and I do get past the big beggin' eyes when we eat our meals. sorry after reading this over i see it looks like i fasted him for a week. it was not a week it was for 24 hrs. the medication was for a week or so. |
I tell people rather rudely when they question why they can't feed Finnigen "just a llittle piece" that they wouldn't eat "just a little piece of dog food" and he's not their dog. |
Just don't let him around your family alone. He will go back to eating dry food if you hold off on the people food long enough. It may take a day or so but he want starve |
