Tummy bug :( I think Layla may have some sort of stomach bug. She has gotten this way a couple times before and I have paid a lot of money for medicine from the vet, even though they have told me I could just feed boiled chicken and rice to settle her stomach until it goes away on its own. This time, I don't quite have the money for a vet visit, so I'm going to try it at home. Her stools have been very soft the past couple of days, and this morning there was just a soft little puddle of poop on her pad. I couldn't miss work today so I just left two pads out for her, in case she goes on one and won't step back on it. I am only going to be home for about half an hour after work today because of some plans I can't back out of. I won't have time to boil chicken, but could I just give her some plain instant rice? And if she has never had it before, is there a chance it could upset her stomach more? |
pepto - it works everytime... |
How much should I give her? I don't have any at home but I might be able to get some late tonight or tomorrow morning. |
depends on how much she weighs, I have a 4 pound girl and I had to give her .4 cc not much at all. |
Okay, Layla's about 8 pounds so I should probably double that, right? Thanks for the quick reply! |
I hope she feels better! I am going to keep the pepto thing in mind for Bella! ;) |
Ya I would start out at .7 cc see how that works then move up to .8 if needed,do you have a syringe without the needle on it if you need help on where to measure it just let me know :) Quote:

I don't have a syringe, but I can check at the drug store for one when I go to get the pepto... but if I can't find it, I'm sure I could get her to lick it up... If she thinks she's not supposed to have it, she'll try to slurp it up fast! |
Yes the drug store should let you have one! hope you baby is feeling better very soon! :) Oh I would only give there that once a day to see how she does on it then move it up to twice a day, and if that doesnt help I would take her in to be seen by her Vet. |
Just remember, Pepto for an upset stomach and childrens benedryl when they don't feel good. you'll save hundreds of dollars in vet bills. i just had Harley for allergy test cost a fortune and they still don't know what he's allergic too... so unless it's an emergency i don't take him to the vets.. plus i can't afford it anymore with a new baby at home.... |
Thanks everyone! Layla has allergies too. When we first moved into our new place I came home from work one day and she had scratched at her eyes until there was blood on her little face! Then it was emergency vet, medication, eye drops, and a huge hole in my wallet. I haven't used benedryl yet because she hasn't been acting up but I will definitely pick some up just in case. Thanks again for all the help! |
i also switched his shampoo to oatmeal shampoo too. he seems to be doing well now, no more reactions yet... i was getting all those perfumed shampoos, never again.... i'm sticking to oatmeal one.... his got so bad he was sneezing blood out of his nose, i always have bendryl in my house just in case he acts up again.. |
AWWW poor baby i hope she feel well very soon, be careful with the benedryl I have not had to use that on my yorks yet knock on wood but when I have to take it I am out of it so ask you Vet how much of that you should give her and i do know make sure its the childrens benedryl ;) Quote:
