Chloe's getting spayed tomorrow I'm so nervous. :( She just turned a year old, so I know she's at a good safe age, and she's over 5.5lbs, so she's a good size... ...but she is still a small little critter. I know they do these surgeries all the time, and they are very routine, but I can't help being worried about it. After all, it is major surgery--they take out everything! I have made and cancelled several appointments over the last six months, and this time, I'm really going through with it. I just hope it all goes well. |

Thanks :) I don't think she spends the night. I'm pretty sure I have to pick her up in the early evening. I"m going to get a onesie for her to keep her from licking her incision. |

I was the same way and Carly was 3 lbs. I had the blood work done and everything I could to do it right with no problems. I was actually making myself sick that whole week before. She had the surgery Friday and I took her early in the morning and went to work (a wreck) and tried to stay busy. I think I called to check on her three times and by 10am she was done in recovery. I picked her up at 5pm and stayed by her side til Tuesday. I even took two days off from work to be with her. She did fine! I will say a prayer for your baby Chloe!! ;) |
Thanks. How long should she be under the weather after the surgery? How long before she'll be able to run around and play and just be back to normal? |
I think a good 10 to 14 days. They can't run, jump or do stairs. My vet gave me papers with instructions on what to do and how much medicine to give her and I followed that sheet. The x-pen really made it easier because she mostly slept and rested the first couple of days. I am sure your vet will do the same. I thought I would have a problem with her licking the incision but I did't she would look at it from time to time and maybe once or twice try to sniff or lick at it but only for a second. all that worrying and she was fine and I have to say it was not a bad experience. |

Btw, Once Daisy got home (a day after her surgery-she stayed overnight), she ran upstairs and ran [I mean, the "zoomies" :eek: ] around the entire house. At that point I had read the vet's instructions "..no stairs, jumping, etc..." :eek: I was trying to catch her..trust me, she was "back to normal "like nothing had happened..LOL I ended up having to keep her in the pen for atleast a week. Only allowing her to come out for "gentle, lap time". She aLso ended up with a minor Urinary Tract Infection -whcih cleared up quickly with antibiotics. I'll be thinking of Chloe tommorrow. I haven't had Sissy spayed . I have made 2 appointments and cancelled them. I should be ashamed of myself,however I'm not. |
Yeah, I cancelled at least 4 appointments that I can recall. I can't put her in an x-pen because she jumps out of them, the little terd :mad: :p Wow, 2 weeks is a long time! I was thinking it would be 5 days. I'll have to keep her in her crate more often. She is really into jumping and running, so I'll have to keep her settled because she likes to get those zoomies! |

Aww poor Chloe, i'm sure it will all go smoothly. Your worried because you being a good mom :) Recovery time depends on the dog, Indy was really a mess for the first week but then was back to normal. The hardest part afterwards is stopping them running and jumping. |
